    What temperature for wort?

Thanks. Thought it was a stupid question 😄 And for a partial mash, around 165? Then toss the grains in?

    What temperature for wort?

Hi. Just picked up a kit and the instructions don't specify at what temperature the wort should be kept at for the hour boil. Stupid question, but should I just bring to a boil then let it slowly simmer for the hour? Do I need to monitor the temp? If so, what temp should i stay at? Thanks

It's so easy to make killer ipas

I'm on to my second brew and searching for what that should be. First brew was a partial mash kit. Curious what this kit was and where you got it—you sound like you're really happy with it. thanks

    Quick question??

I was going to get a Vinator and tree. Was wondering, would just running the bottles on the sanitize cycle of the dishwasher be sufficient enough to NOT need to rinse in StarSans?

    2nd Brew—what to brew??

I want to do my second brew and would love some suggestions... Nothing too complicated, obviously. First brew was a martial mash kit, not too complicated. Had all the instructions and everything I needed. (Belgian Pale Ale) from Brooklyn HomeBrew. Was looking for a Brekle's Brown clone...

Looking for a Fischer Amber Ale clone

Thanks for this! stupid question, but I thought it was an amber ale, not a lager... what would you suggest for a 2nd beer? my other thought was a Brekle's Brown Ale clone.

First brew, a success! (I think)

Thanks, that's a good system. I"ve only chilled one bottle, so perhaps ill wait till the weekend, that'll make it 3 weeks in bottles. If i chill the bottles ahead of the 3 weeks, but keep them in the refrigerator, that still would help, right? cheers

Looking for a Fischer Amber Ale clone

Hi all, this is one of my favs, and would like to try this for my second home-brew attempt. Does anyone have a clone for this? with instructions, since i'm a total nubie :) cheers

All great advice, thanks everyone! I'm just glad the stuff was actually drinkable :) there were several times i was worried about my sanitizing, so glad it all went well. Now onto batch #2

First brew, a success! (I think)

Thanks i didn't empty the bottle all the way, left some in there. will definitely try to not rack from the bottom of the fermenter next time. guess drinking those floaters isn't bad for you, right? :)

First brew, a success! (I think)

So i just cracked open a test bottle of my first brew—A Belgian Pale Ale. Bottled it two weeks ago and chilled the bottle for just over 24 hrs. Good carbonation and head. Tastes nice, my wife said she's pay money for it :) question is this, (see the image attached) there's a good bit...

    Sediment floating

Thanks. I left it in the carboy for about 4 weeks, so the fermentation was complete for sure. possibly during racking, i picked up some bottom sediment with the auto siphon...Was I supposed to use that attachment that came with it to prevent this from happening? Even with sediment, the...

    Sediment floating

I've bottled my first bath, 2 weeks ago. Just put a tester in the refrigerator yesterday and noticed there was some floating sediment in it. Also had a closer look at the other bottles and noticed the same thing. Just wondering if this sort of thing is "normal", or if it means the beer...

    how long in the bottle?

My first batch has been in the bottles (hopefully carving up nicely) for 1 week today. It's a Belgian Mustache Pale Ale. How long should it stay in the bottles? What should I do next? Cheers

    Cleaning a fermenter

I have the same question...Just bottled my first batch, and cleaned the glass carboy with the brush and dish soap. Got it pretty clean, but wondering what i need to do next time i ferment in it, to make sure its "really clean". Will StarSans do the trick?

    Carboy cleaning (after first batch)

So i've bottled my first batch..and have scrubbed and cleaned the carboy with soap and the bottle brush. I'm sure it's not 100% clean or sanitized, so i'm wondering what needs to be done before I use it for my next fermentation. thanks

    Wyeast Pack Didn't Swell

i had the same issue with that same yeast. took 3 full days for it to start fermenting.

What should it taste like? (before bottling)

I'm ready to bottle my first brew, a Belgian Mustache Pale Ale. I just did my final ABV reading and took a taste. Flat, or course, but the flavor was also flat— a bit bitter, but not in the hoppy, bitter kind of way. Almost void of any real flavor or character... So, just wondering what it's...

    First time bottling questions

Thanks, this is all great info. I do have dishwasher nearby...if i run it a couple hours before and let them cool inside, there's no risk of contamination? The bottles are still sanitized? And i've also heard you need to dip those bottles in Star Sans as well, is that not true? Thanks again
