    First batch screw up

Thanks for all your replies. Keep my fingers crossed lol. Let you know how it goes! One thing my yeast packet date was 8/2020. So pretty old yeast.

No there is much more headspace

    First batch screw up

Ok so the adding of the quart after is going to make the yeast much more active? Or is the concern that my carboy does not have enough head space? There's a lot of 1 gallon brewers that successfully use a carboy like this... as I have read anyway.

    First batch screw up

Ok but am not clear why I should not top off to the starting volume I should have had. in the first place? At one gallon in carboy i should have enough head space.

    First batch screw up

When do I top off? It has been about 20 min since pitched. I'm 3/4 gallon in carboy right now. My carboy is about 1.25 gal

    First batch screw up

So almost done with my first 1 gal extract and all was going well until... after filling fermenter with wort... realized i mistakenly under measured by a quart! So I quickly grabbed some water (tap water... another mistake) and got it to boil. In meantime my yeast was ready to pitch as I...

That's a good idea. I will be bottling using used 16oz grolsch bottles. Only thing is my kit came with priming tabs. But a could look up how much sugar needed for 7 and 12oz

    Control fermentation temp.

Yep the upright are more expensive for sure. That one there is pretty nice and good price! Beware... if you plan on best buy shipping to your house. They are notorious for shipping damaged appliances. Heck a reseller next to me ... has entire store stocked with dented best buy fridges. and...

    Control fermentation temp.

I will go to a freezer at one point myself... and this fridge will become a beer cooler. Have you checked the upright freezers? Easier to get things in/out. Can see better etc. Look like they may accommodate taller conicals possibly. Would be interested in the interior dimensions on this. Of...

    Control fermentation temp.

I just received this yesterday and have it set up. At the moment I only have 1 and 3 gallon carboys... but it looks like a 5 gallon would fit. I could provide interior measurements if anyone interested.

    Fermentation Fridge

I just received my small fridge and inkbird for a fermentation chamber. Should I take the lamp bulb out located in fridge? Obviously UV not good for beer...but not sure about light from this bulb. Only comes on with door open of course

    First 1 gallon batch

well a ton of 1 gallon brewers use the 1 gallon carboys. the 1 gallon carboy is actually 1.25 gallons or something like that. But yea I wont be netting 1 gallon of beer I know that. I will set up a blow off hose for first 3-4 days. So, will see how it goes!! I bottled a 5 gal batch last...

    First 1 gallon batch

Im just using a 1 gallon glass carboy for now. I dont have a ranking cane clip ... so I figured she can hold the cane and help steady the carboy on the towel. I dont even have a bottling wand yet or a hose clamp if not using a wand. So, will have to get one of those

    First 1 gallon batch

Great points. Yes I was planning on doing a bottling test before hand... as you are right ... not much beer to waste! I did order a red racking cane tip Racking Cane Tip - 1/2 in. | MoreBeer that I can use... it looks like its an inverter tip as it draws from the top and not from the bottom...
