    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

Well some positive news on a couple fronts. We put our Colorado Brewing system up on Pro Brewer and within a day we had 7 or 8 people interested in purchasing it. So I'm happy about that. We also made the decision last night as an owners' group to pursue better fermentors. As many of you...

    The Brown Barn Brewery Build

Beautiful stuff fellas! Love both the barns. Personally I like a rustic feel so the brown barn wins my top vote but Jayway's is a thing of beauty as well.

    Naked passive aggressive people!

I'm offended at the poor ascii art. It was truly horrible.

    Naked passive aggressive people!

Edited to avoid offending anyone, anywhere, anytime.

I'm seriously considering opening a brewery

You may find that a taproom is a very warm and friendly place. Distribution is great, but young breweries make a good chunk of change in the taproom and they build their reputation there. I wouldn't discount the opportunities and benefit of a thriving taproom environment too quickly...

I'm seriously considering opening a brewery

Starting a new brewery is an exciting prospect to be sure. It sounds as though you have a pretty good idea of where you want to be eventually, but realize you need some solid guidance about how to get there. I would suggest that you start by investigating your local state laws. You don't...

Mangrove Jack West Coast so slow.

I really like the MJ West Coast yeast. In fact we've used it for some things at the brewery. However they don't service commercial breweries anymore so we've moved over to White Labs for pretty much everything. However, the West Coast, British Ale and Bavarian yeast from MJ is pretty nice...

    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

Well, we've submitted to the Best of Craft Beer festival in Oregon. We'll see how that goes. I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season.

    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

That's true. As they say it's a good problem to have. We have an Oregon competition coming up in January. We have to register by the 10th. So we'll be finalizing what we want to submit tonight. We have several options, it's just determining what we think will do best. We did get some...

    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

And we're STILL in business. I feel terrible about the delays in keeping up for you guys. I really do. So I will binge post for you today. So much to update you on. Let's see. You'll remember that we changed out our brewing system awhile back. We moved to Colorado Brewing Systems 4 bbl...

    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

Made it to Denver, stopped in at the Yaak and Yeti last night. It's a brilliant fusion of Indian, Tibetan and Microbrews. The beer was quite good. In fact they have a couple medal winners. The food was extraordinary. We had a great time. Today we'll be visiting a couple more local...

    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

Well, here we are, on the eve of heading out to GABF. We've entered a few beers. I'm looking forward to the festival. I know I've been M.I.A. for quite some time now. I wish I had some time to catch you up on everything. Suffice to say we are STILL in business. Just had a couple festivals...

    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

We've been pretty overwhelmed. Unfortunately I have let my responsibilities here slide a bit. We have the GABF coming up and that means our annual trek full of hope and likely heart-break. But hey, you can't win if you don't enter!

    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

Just put a new beer on tap, a mild Bitter called 2nd Base. Cause, you know - you're only halfway there...

    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

Hoo Boy, did y'all miss me? It's been awhile. We've been doing man to beer combat down here for the last few months. Allow me to attempt to summarize. Yes, we're still in business. Summer has taken us by surprise. Last year (our first summer) was very slow and we really sort of went into...

Last weekend was markedly better. 4 hours, 45 minutes.

Metallic Taste After 1 Week in Corny Keg?

Sanitizer is a wonderful thing, as long as you use it in the proper ratios. Overdo it and you get some off-flavors that can significantly present themselves particularly in milder products. Go ahead, ask me how I know that.

    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

We haven't used the CF chillers yet. We have a plate chiller that we use. We use the whirlpool attachment to start cooling the wort a bit, but haven't toyed with the CF chillers yet. We'll get to that in a couple more brews I suspect. I would NOT abandon your other chilling options just yet...

    Muddy Creek Brewery: Hot Break!

The large system uses cross circulation across the two mash tuns / brew kettles if you wish to brew a "big batch". You can also brew two independent batches at the same time if you wish. (That's one of the cool things about the system.) One of the minor things that's a bit frustrating with...
