    2 Quick Questions

    1) The easy answer is "it's ready when it's ready." After about 10 days I'll take a hydrometer reading, then take it again a few days later. If it's the same over the course of a few days, it's ready to go. If you were closer to 60F I'd say it'll take a few more days but it should take about the...

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

My family is like this too. Anything above about 10 IBUs is far too bitter

    Allagash Brewing Little Brett Clone

Can't speak for that beer particularly but I did culture up some Allagash White yeast a while back. They definitely conditioned with the same yeast they fermented with for that one. Pitched the dregs of 4 bottles into a starter and a few days later there was enough for a batch, can't see why it...

What did I cook this weekend.....

Pork loin was insanely cheap this weekend so I trimmed up a few for roasts and the ‘scraps’ were made into this deliciousness. Chili Colorado with Mexican rice and refried beans. One of the best meals I made in a while.

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

I've got a Little Griddle (https://www.amazon.com/Little-Griddle-SQ180-Universal-Stainless/dp/B000HQHBSQ/ref=lp_3033973011_1_3?srs=3033973011&ie=UTF8&qid=1527856737&sr=8-3) that I probably use as much as the actual grill. It's nice to have both options but part of me wishes I had the real deal

What did I cook this weekend.....

Fighting off a cold so went with some chicken noodle soup and a loaf of bread. Entirely too hot outside to have a pot on the stove and the oven on but worth it.

    Homemade Bread Thread

It’s been a while but felt like a quick loaf this evening to go with some soup. Didn’t come out half bad.

What superstitions have snuck their way into your brewday?

Part superstition part historical evidence, but if I don't think my boil can be started by 7am at the latest, brewday is canceled. The more of the brewday that happens during the daylight, the more that goes wrong.

Things brewers say that sound so wrong to non-brewers...............

"I've got a Belgian Blonde in the shower that needs racked when I get home" (Trying to make my latest ceiling mess seem not so bad) "That's not the first time I got it on the ceiling, it cleaned up fine last time"

What did I cook this weekend.....

I’m not much for recipes but here’s a guess. - 4 packs frozen spinach - 1 lemon - About 2-4 tablespoons mustard - About 1/3 cup green onion - About 2 tsp of garlic powder - 6 oz crumbled feta cheese - 2 eggs - Olive Oil -...

Probably a bit late but it seems like a lot of vets offer boarding. As long as you can prove that they're up on their shots you might have some luck calling around to vet offices around you.

Monterey Jack is my go to for pizzas now. Used to be a mozzerella guy but the flavor and meltiness of Monterey is hard to beat imho

Seeking Advice on Which Smoker to Get - Newby

I picked up a propane 2 door cabinet smoker with 4 levels for under $200 a few years back. It does exactly what it's supposed to do, and it has a ton of room inside which is great for larger gatherings. After being beaten in the Columbia sun over the last few years it still works great, but my...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

From now on every sub par beer I make will be blamed on phenesters.

My friend (let's call him "Monterey Jack") had a keg that had old crappy beer in it that decided to foam up when the pressure was released. Long story short is there were fruit skins that clogged the PRV so Monterey thought it was relieved of pressure and unscrewed the PRV to get it cleaned...

Seems like it ought to work. Although I'd be the idiot that forgot to turn off the hose before cleaning up and taking off the manifold and spray water over everything haha

I think he's wanting to hook up a garden hose and a hose coming from the recirculating pump to the manifold, which will flow through the chiller. Once he gets the wort down a bit with the garden hose he can shut off one manifold, turn the pump on and let the other one go without having to go to...
