    StarSan suck back?

Once primary fermentation is done, I just install a rubber stopper with a length of tubing and one of these babies on the end. It's s sanitary air filter available at an LHBS:

    CT Brewers Check-In

Chris and all - I built a Kal system brewery in my basement [Norwalk] too. I've got a few beers on tap just outside in a taproom area. Would love to host/join anything you guys get up to. PM me or philip <at> meese <dot> org.

What I did for beer today

I went up to the Stony Creek Brewery in Branford, CT and got a tour of the place from the president. What an awesome place, and an awesome bunch of folks.

    Big Dark Malt PH Issue

So, dude, you have the both of the masters of water chemistry chimed in here, AND Yooper as if that wasn't enough :) so I'm not sure I can add much value, but I wanted to follow through and run this into Martin's model, Bru'nwater, the way I do all my beers to see if I could help. Caveat: I am...

What I did for beer today

You're safe. Per BJCP 2015, Belgian Dark Strong Ale is now in category 26 "Trappist" (go figure). I was stewarding 25c Belgian Golden Strong. I'll get ya next time.

New way to control Pellet Hop gunk!

I have a 6x14 400. I try to use only whole hops, as pellets seem to clog it more. I've brewed 10 gallon big IPAs with large hops additions in the boil without a problem and I usually recirculate after flameout for 15+ minutes. When I use pellets and it clogs a little, I find that if I just...

What I did for beer today

I worked Porters in the morning and Strong Belgian Ale in the afternoon. If yours was in those categories, then I shook it up on the way to the judges table ;)

Anyone have examples of tidy beer line routing in keezer?

I'm not dinging the setup at all. My personal motto is if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing. I just wonder that you don't have a nitrogen tank and a custom gas mixer setup in there too.

    Low Flow From Keg

The only time I had an issue like this was on a hoppy beer that had brought a few TINY LITTLE pieces of whole hop into the keg. One little tiny freaking piece worked it's way up the dip tube and jammed into the poppet spring, thereby slowing the pour to a painful degree, even though I was...

Anyone have examples of tidy beer line routing in keezer?

Dude. Do you seriously have a separate regulator for each keg??? Freakin flux capacitor!

Anyone have examples of tidy beer line routing in keezer?

My kegerator has two front-opening doors so it's tough to show what I have going on. I've got 7 beers on tap and room for 9 kegs inside so I can be conditioning a couple. As for the gas lines, I had space on the back wall to put together a little gas line organizer - see photos. But all the...

    Big Dark Malt PH Issue

working with Bru'nwater, the water profile you shared wasn't adding up properly. Are there some other numbers from your water analysis you could share? See warning message in red below. Values that would help are ones I zeroed out because you didn't provide them: -Potassium (K) -Iron (Fe)...

    Big Dark Malt PH Issue

I'd be happy to run this through Bru'nwater for you when I get home tonight. When I'm brewing IPAs or PAs with my city reservoir water, I usually need some Lactic to get the right pH. But I just brewed a Baltic Porter and, because of the dark malt profile, needed to go the opposite way (slaked...

    Will this be adequate

I would too, if they weren't patented by and grown only at Washington's Virgil Gamache farms. And they don't sell rhizomes

What I did for beer today

I stewarded this past weekend at the NHC judging event at Singlecut Brewery in Queens, NY. A lot of fun and a great bunch of people. Shout out to Chris Cuzme for organizing and Singlecut for providing space.

    Will this be adequate

What are the "X"'s between the uplines? Are those for keeping the uplines from sagging or are you going to train some of the bines along them?

    Delayed Boil?

I've done what you're talking about - completed the mash and done the wort collection, and just put the cover on it and boiled the next day (and also like you - not by choice). It worked out just fine, but later after consulting HBT I decided that if I ever do that again I will bring the wort up...

Naming a beer, does it matter?

I like coming up with beer names but haven't named all of them. I've named beers for special occasions, my dog, or just something that seemed appropriate for the beer: Chrispo, A Classic American Pale Ale (after a friend) Bell Ringer, A Bell's Two Hearted clone, brewed with yeast cultured...

What I did for beer today

Holy crap busy night in the brewery... -poured a double IPA from the tap to kick things off -deepened the cold crash from 5C to 1.5C on a Rye IPA that's finishing -tested the Pilsener that's 15 days into primary and 3 days into diacetyl rest - 1.007 now - woot! - still seems like there's a...

Keg lines - replace or refurbish?

I wish you hadn't posted this. I was trying to ignore this issue as long as possible. I've noticed that I have a few gas lines that have somehow gotten a little backwash in them. I guess I have to look at cleaning them too. Interested to hear answers to this question. My kegerator setup hasn't...
