    2016 Hop Growing Thread

Need some help here. My plants aren't in a real sunny location but they're growing pretty well for 1st year rhizomes I guess. The cascade has many leaves that look like the below. I've seen very light spider webs on them but the leaf cupping seems from what I've read to indicate downy mildew...

Chronical Fermenter by SS Brewing Technologies

After any dry hopping, I just run CO2 in for 30 seconds or so. I figure that flushes most O2 out the top. Not very scientific but I definitely get a constant flow of air coming out of the top while I'm doing that, so I figure it's a pretty good flush because the CO2 will sink to the bottom while...

What I did for beer today

I like the looks of that CIP rig. I didn't realize they had that... and the 3" TC fitting on the top. And the sample valve. My 1/2 BBL doesn't have any of that. That's a sweet looking rig.

Nursed two Pulseners up to diacetyl rest temp. Looked in on a S Hop Chinook APA that should finish secondary in a week or so.

What I did for beer today

Good day for homebrew yesterday. I delivered two cases of bottled APA wedding beer to a friend's celebration - all custom labeled for the event. In the evening I poured through a keg of double IPA at a community Shakesbeer fundraiser. Got a ton of really appreciative comments.

"ill never be one of those crazys that spend thousands on equipment"

Brewing is one of the least expensive hobbies I've ever taken up, so even though I'm off the deep end I still justify it as just having fun. Some hobbies, like windsurfing, aren't very social. At least with beer, I have ample opportunities to share with people. Just yesterday I delivered 2...

    Don't Do That.

So I'm sure you had a good reason to be adding calcium chloride to fully carbed beer, so why was that?

What I did for beer today

Checked on two Pilseners and an APA that are fermenting. All are chugging away happily.

Chronical Fermenter by SS Brewing Technologies

No leakage from the pressure release valves on either of my 14 gallons fermenters. I built a pressurized transfer rig that I run up to about 1 psi and the pressure release valve doesn't budge, so it certainly isn't admitting air when the rig isn't pressurized. Also to the gent who had issues...

    SS Conical Fermentor

I'm happy with all the SSBrewTech stuff I have after a dozen or more brews. Very convenient to use for sampling during fermentation, dumping trub, harvesting yeast and easy to clean though I would recommend the new butterfly valves for even easier cleaning.

    Shed/shop/brewery project

That is some sweet looking workshop shed. I need a cabinet like that in my brew studio. Lots of brew tools kept on shelves and the top of ferm fridge. You gotta figure out if that s a workshop or a brewery though, dude.
