I can not find any information on making Whiskey. I need to freeze distil it. As I have limited funds.

This is awesome! Exactly what I want to do for a little gin still. What is the lid/stopper that you're using? Any idea how much copper is there? No issues w/ vapor coming out of the condenser w/ just the air cooling w/ the fan? You run 12 gal of wash through this? How long does that...

    Need a little help…

Wow. Hell of a set-up. I've been brewing since 1996, and still recommend the same things. Relax, don't worry, and have a home brew! Read Papizian and Palmer, and don't go into the weeds until you've got a few batches under your belt. Brewing is easy. Making award winners can be nuanced...

    IKEA Dryck Lingon experiment

Interesting post! I look forward to an update regarding a tea kettle still (and the drink you're making), as I need a little gin still! Last year I put the contents of a jar of lingonberry jam in a pint mason jar, and filled w/ 90% shine. I still have a little left, I wonder how it's aged...

Larry Bell Stepping Down, Selling to New Belgium's parent company

First time I went to Bell's was when a few friends were undergrads and I was visiting. I had TERRIBLE gas that night. One of my friends and I left the outside beer garden to get a beer at the bar inside, and while standing there I busted ass. It was so nasty that it literally cleared out the...

    Ticks

From here: ASPCA So what does homebrewing have to do with pets? With the increasing popularity of homebrewing, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) has seen an increase in calls concerning pets ingesting hops—a staple ingredient in most beers. For those who may not be beer...

    Distilling a sour red ale?

What is the overall taste/smell? Mine was quite different than a standard bourbon mash. Its in the attic aging, so I haven't looked at it in over a month. It was settling down a bit though last I checked. K

Embarrassingly Old Extract w/ Kveik. Why not

Its been sitting in my basement for decades, bulged. Not going to change any time soon, and I'm not dumb enough to try to drink anything I brew with it! Yes, there is a high likelihood that there's something growing that I don't want to ingest. Kinda neat to see if it splits open at some...

Is their any Homebrew stores that don't charge arm and leg for shipping?

I'm pretty certain that they're owned by AIH. Jay bought them a number of years ago and moved down there for a time (maybe still lives there? I've not seen him in a long time!) K

Embarrassingly Old Extract w/ Kveik. Why not

I've got a bulging can of Brewferm Diablo in my basement from the mid '90's. I'm pretty certain that it was old and expired when I got it. I just looked at it and there are no dates or anything on it. It still has the yeast pack and directions. Maybe an experiment is in order?? K

Is their any Homebrew stores that don't charge arm and leg for shipping?

My LHBS is Adventures In Homebrewing (www.homebrewing.org). They regularly have free shipping for orders greater than $50 (not including sacks of grain.) K

    Where to get corn?

Cracked corn is cheap at a local feed store. Pretty much most distillers use feed grade corn. Corn meal works great as well, and is fit for human consumption out of the box. Just not as inexpensive, but still cheaper than flaked for most people. K

    When to add immersion chiller

I stick it in the kettle usually w/ my last hop charge, so 5-15 min of boil time before flame-out. Mine gets rinsed off as soon as I'm done w/ chilling, before I transfer to my fermenter. Then it gets hung up until the next brew day. K

    Grain crush/mill question.

Yes, so far. I've done a few brews, settling in w/ my measurements and numbers before changing anything. I've used barley and rye, no wheat yet. Dump it all in, and pull the trigger on my drill! K

    Grain crush/mill question.

I got a Cereal Killer from Adventures in Homebrewing for Christmas. Since then my efficiencies have gone from 55-65% up to 80-85%. I set my gap at about 0.029". Full volume BIAB w/ Wilserbags. I've been brewing all grain w/ various systems since 1996, and have never seen efficiencies this...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I've brewed this numerous times, and its now a standard at my house and my brother-in-laws house who I brew for. I always brew it per the original recipe. Recently I've come into a bunch of El Dorado hops. Has anyone done this brew w/ a single hopped El Dorado? What do you think? K

    Distilling a sour red ale?

How the sour beer run go? Asking for a friend... I understand that friend did ~40 gal of sour and old beer. It has a particular odor that i don't care for. It'll be interesting to see how it ages. K
