    Load cells

Links? I'm going to be following this thread closely. I'm torn between load cells (and calibration issues) and more holes in my kettles for pressure sensors.

    My mostly automated brucontrol setup

Nice use of the inverted tray to protect the connectors on the bottom of the enclosure. I'm looking forward to seeing it with everything all dressed up and the covers snapped on for the milestone that says "done." I'm also stoked that this is just v. 1.0. For sure, I'll be standing by with...

    New BruControl Build

In my case, I wanted to offload as much as I could off of the Arduino board, so I added the 5v supply to drive the RTD amplifier board and the transistor side of the three relay boards. The 12v drives the mechanical side of the relay boards, the five non-proportional motorized valves, and the...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

If you go into the settings for the graph, you can force the range displayed. By default, it's set to autorange. Set it for 130-160 and see how that works for you. Initially, it will be blank, but as the temp climbs into range, you'll see the track show up at the bottom of the graph.

Need some (A lot) of guidance building R Pi controller with Craftbrew Pi software

Definitely the better choice. The metal plate means you can ground all of your rail, and it makes it easy to use the green terminal blocks that make metal-to-metal contact with the rail. Don't forget to run a ground jumper from the door to the ground stud inside the box. In many cases, the...

    New BruControl Build

Be nice to find a source for that part that isn't from the Bay. Looks like @augiedoggy has been waiting for a while. Maybe Mouser or Digikey? Here is an Amazon link, but it looks like a lead time of about a month, and there's a Bezos fee associated.

    New BruControl Build

That was the scene today just outside my brewery, where the scientists, press, dogcatchers, and other assorted ne'er-do-wells and hangers-on had gathered in the hopes that humanity would finally get an answer to the question that has been on everybody's mind for three generations. At...

Need some (A lot) of guidance building R Pi controller with Craftbrew Pi software

@Gravitysucks Your layout looks very well thought-out and organized. Clearly, you're taking some time to create a serviceable control enclosure. If you'd like, I'd be happy to look over your schematics and evaluate them from a safety standpoint. Your pics get a gold star for neatness, that's...

    New BruControl Build

Update: I've been dealing with a weird temp sensor issue in my system. Thanks to the data logging and graphing capabilities of BruControl, and the patient but relentless tech support from @BrunDog over in the BruControl thread, it looks like it's close to being solved. In a nutshell, a small...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Preliminary indications from the MOV are encouraging. As of now, my ferm system has been running for about nine hours without a single spike big enough to affect the 1-wire temp sensors. @BrunDog has the device log for today (about six hours' worth). It makes for a very boring read. As noted...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Maybe with an if/then line in your script? IF FV1=0 and FV2=0 and FV3=0, then pump=0 IF FV1=1 or FV2=1 or FV3=1, then pump=1 Not sure about the exact syntax, but you get the idea.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Here's a screencap from earlier today. I added the two red lines, since the 3-hour X-axis started getting crowded. I didn't see any when the X-axis was one hour. Prior to seeing this, I had only seen one spike, and it was on the glycol bath sensor. These are all 1-wire, btw.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Damnit. Still having temp spike anomalies. Two last night between 0100-0400.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Since the one spike was on the glycol chiller, what I'm going to do is put a filter across the chiller contactor itself, if I see any more spikes.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

@BrunDog @augiedoggy it looks like the RC filters have helped with my setup. Even with the refresh interval dialed back to 1 second, I'm not getting the heavy cycling on the glycol chiller that I was before. I'm also not seeing anywhere near the number of temp spikes. I saw one last night...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

I went into the Edit Interface page (gear icon) and changed the refresh interval from 1 sec. to 5 sec. It really reduced the number of spikes I'm seeing. I can also report that all of my spikes are on the shutoff of the inductive load.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

@augiedoggy I ordered five of the RC filters from Auber. The only place I will not have one is across the coil for the contactor that starts the glycol chiller compressor. The five filters will cover both chugger pumps attached to the brewstand enclosure, the two 4" muffin fans, the glycol...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

@Die_Beerery I'm not 100% sure on the timing of my "events." I may be spiking during shutoff cycles. I'm going to get a handful of the Auber snubbers that @augiedoggy suggested, and hook them across the COM/NC terminals of the relays for the pumps, fans, and the glycol chiller compressor...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

@augiedoggy I'm seeing similar behavior on both of my enclosures. On the brewstand controller, I occasionally lose WiFi connectivity when a pump fires, especially when an element is on. I also see temp spikes (PT100s) I need to reset the Mega when that happens. The effect of the reset is that...
