I have seen a "bottle krausen" at the top of some of my beers at times. It comes from the carbonation process. Swirl it around gently and give it a couple of days to see if it settles out.

Do you think adding gelatin prior to bottling can affect carbing rates. I added gelatin to two batches and carbing seemed to be slower. I can't testify as to total carbanation level as my impatience outlasted the batch. :D

lowes tubing will work. if you have some already to siphon with it will probably fit over the post inside the airlock, if you run some hot water over the hose it will slip on easier.
