    Porter Extract hop question

I bought NB's St. Paul Porter and it calls for 2 oz Cluster(60 min) and 1 oz of Cascade (1 min) hops. They gave me 3 oz of Cluster and no Cascade. I have an extra 1/2 oz of Yakima Magnum in the freezer, would this be an appropriate substitute for the Cascade? Or should I use all Cluster?

    Dirty Wort Chiller

I've made 5 batches an I've seen the oily sheen but it has never effected the taste as far as I can tell. I have a chiller but no weld that sits in the beer. I've always assumed the oil slick was from the Starsan or maybe oils released from the boil.

I fully support Midwest breweries: Summit, Surly, Flat Earth, New Glarus, Tyranena are some of the best.

    Hop Head Double IPA Problem

I racked the Hop Head to the secondary today and ironically I'm in the Mpls area also. Unfortunately, I have no answers for you.

    newbie here

I'm pretty new also and on my fourth extract batch, all of which have turned out great partly because of all the useful info on this board. Just a tip, the search function actually works well here when you have a question.

    Is it ok?

I'm on my third batch and I always go into the basement and sniff the aromas coming from the airlock.

Excited for first brew session tomorrow!

Wow, my first batch was bottled and I only have six left from a five gallon batch. Everyone though the beer tasted great and was carbed after only a few days. This batch won't last long but I'll save a couple to try in a month or two. My Patersbier is in the secondary and I'm going to dry...

Excited for first brew session tomorrow!

So I moved the first batch (Sierra extract clone) into a secondary, it was a too early I know but I wanted to get started on a second and my five year old wanted to see the siphon in action. I'm expecting this one to be on the lighter side but I'm planning on doing this one again and adding...

    Cleaning question

Easy Clean is an Oxygen based cleaner that came with my brew kit. I've heard good things about PBW I'll probably try that after I run out of Easy Clean.

    Cleaning question

I'm getting ready to make my second batch and I cleaned out my primary fermenter which is an 'Ale Pail'. I let it soak for about 6 hours with Easy Clean and scrubbed with a soft sponge but the bucket still has a faint aroma from my previous brew. Can that cause any problems with the new...

    Pseudo-Pils Extract Kit

Thanks for the info, sounds like I should wait until I have a way to cold condition a beer like this. However, once I have a fridge for this purpose I won't need to make the pseudo-pils I can (attempt) to make the lager, correct? Maybe I'll get a few more ales under my belt before I try...

    Pseudo-Pils Extract Kit

I'm trying to decide what to make for my second batch, my first batch is still in the primary so I'll need to buy another bucket. Northern Brewer has something called "Victorious Primo Pseudo-Pils Extract Kit" which uses Kolsch II yeast and I was considering going to pick this up on my lunch...

Issues with Midwest Supplies Extract kits?

I'm a noob so I'm sorry for my ignorance but did you sanitize the counterflow chiller? They seem like they'd be tough to get clean.

Add secondary fermation time to the primary?

I was just reading through this informative thread about using a secondary or not. It sounds like many people use the extended primary fermentation method only and have great success. I currently have my first pale ale in a primary and I think I'm going to leave it for a couple more weeks...

Know of any brew kits with wort chiller under $200?

I'm new to brewing also and I bought this for about 90 bucks and made a decent wort chiller for about $18. Actually the kit was cheaper since I live near the store and went there in person. http://www.midwestsupplies.com/brewing-starter-kit.html

Excited for first brew session tomorrow!

Everything went much better than I had hoped, no boil overs, nothing burned, the malt extract dissolved very easily. A couple things I noticed. I made a small immersion wort chiller with 25' of tubing and it cooled the 4 gallons of wort much faster than I thought it would. Fermentation was...

Excited for first brew session tomorrow!

Thanks for the reassurance and reminder about the boil over Brewham, I'll post my initial results and impressions.

Excited for first brew session tomorrow!

I'm new to brewing but not to beer and I'm brewing my first batch (extract) tomorrow wondering why I didn't start doing this 10 years ago. I think I have all my supplies and have checked and re-checked my list. I've also been reading this forum and have found much quality advice, thanks for...
