Should I toss the “yeast nutrients” that came with the kit in the wort also or are they unnecessary? The nutrients I am talking about are not the "smack pack" but extra ones that came with the kit.

Thanks for all of the quick replies everyone. I am using the Wyeast Weihenstephaner liquid yeast (Activator pack). My kit came with a small "pill" of yeast nutrient, should I use it when I pitch to the wort? Hefeweizen is my favorite beer style, so I can't wait to see how this turns out.

If you like the Dunkelwiezen Orfy, you may want to look for a Weizenbock. Much maltier and more complex than the standard Dunkelweizen. I think Weihenstephaner makes a good one.

I usually just hold my bottle under a stream of hot water from the tap for about 10-15 seconds. Brings a 12oz bottle to good drinking temperature pretty quickly.

Marvin is worth a look. The beer is reasonably priced and they have 3 bars (2 upstairs and 1 downstairs), but the place is absolutely packed to the gills on thursday/friday nights. During the summer they have an open air bar on the roof and by about 11:00pm the entire place is standing room only.

Haven't been to Matchbox yet, but its on the list now. I have a group of friends coming to visit in December, so I'll have to hit that place while they're here. I usually stick to the U-Street area when I go out, so I don't know much about places around Chinatown.
