How to properly carbonate a Corny Keg

I've had great luck dropping the keg in the keezer right after racking, set it to 30psi for 48 hours, purge head space and set to serving pressure. In about 4 days its ready to go.

Any tricks for Dry Hopping in a Carboy???

I tried dry hopping in a bag a few times but had problems getting the bag to sink, and it is a huge PITA to get the bag out of the carboy. Now I just dump the hops in loose, then use a hop bag/grain bag over the sucking end of an auto-siphon to filter out any hop particles, works great!

    Electric Heater Element in HLT

If you used soft water for your test, it may be build-up that is flaking off the element. When I built/tested my eHLT, I forgot to bypass the water softener and within a few minutes had white build up covering the entire element. 15 batches later it is still chipping away, but it has a nice...

    Keezer cycles every 2 seconds

Couldn't find a set screw on mine. Maybe under a metal casing? Project for another day.

    Keezer cycles every 2 seconds

Never would have thought of that. Would this work on older freezers? is there any risk of permanently damaging anything? If I can do that I'll use this TC on a fermentation chamber...

    Keezer cycles every 2 seconds

Works like a charm. So the SV setting (target temp) dosn't really matter? Just the upper and lower limits?

    Keezer cycles every 2 seconds

Could you take a look at this? I know, this is a lot of information, but... For some reason the Bb on table 3 is not present on the controller... Note 1: 0: Relay J1 Alarm output; SSR Disabled, normally used for upper lower limit alarm trigger control. 1: Relay J1 PID...

    Keezer cycles every 2 seconds

So these are my three options, is option 0 essentially on/off control? 0: Relay Alarm output; SSR Disabled, normally used for upper lower limit alarm trigger control. 1: Relay J1 PID controlled output: SSR Disabled. Contact controlled output. 2: Relay J1 as alarm output; SSR PID controlled...

    Keezer cycles every 2 seconds

Will the mechanical relay wear out after a period of time? That's why I was trying to use the ssr output and pid, no moving parts.

    Keezer cycles every 2 seconds

Just built a temp controller for the keezer using a cheap JLD7100 temp controller. When i run Auto-Tune it seems to work, but when it finishes, it wants to kick the compressor on and off every few seconds. I just cant figure out how to keep it running until it hits a low setting, then shut off...

Seasonal rise of my Cellar Temperature

Same thing started happening here in Madison. Temps in my under-stairs cellar started creeping up to 65ish in the last week or so. I was always under the assumption that warmer temps=shorter bottle life, cooler temps=longer bottle life. Personally, I was more comfortable moving them to my...

    Water or Star San change?

Probably from the same podcast - BasicBrewingRadio - 3/27/07 About 37 minute mark: "If theres minerals in the water, what will happen over a period of time the minerals will start to win out and it will start to create a hard water soap. Hard water soap will make the product go...

    Water or Star San change?

On brew days i bypass my water softener and use our hard tap water. Sometimes I forget to switch back and this hard water makes my starsan cloudy almost instantly. I would usually toss this and mix a new batch with the soft water and its crystal clear. I read in a couple places that hard...

    Help with cheap PID controller

Yea, there would be a SSR in there, I just forgot to draw it... Could using the alarm work both ways? Cooling then alarm triggers heater? Or only heating and alarm triggers cooling? I think over the summer I would be cooling more often.

    Help with cheap PID controller

Its that time of year here in Wisconsin where it was 80deg Sunday and going to be 30deg this weekend. I have a cheap temperature controller that I use for the keezer and it works well, so i bought another one for my fermentation chamber. Since there are huge temperature fluctuations it would...

How can I use this as a mash tun/false bottom?

This pot is about $20 at a local supermarket. That steaming tray sits on the lip about 2" from the bottom, is there anything easy i could do with that tray to make it an effective false bottom? Could I just line it with screen or something? Otherwise its a cheap HLT...
