My beer tastes like hose water

It did get hotter than I wanted for a few hours. I use one of those insulated bags to keep the temp down and forgot to change the ice packs one day. Not exactly sure what it got up to or for how long. The third "uh-oh" was that it took several days for any bubbling to start. I tried not to...

My beer tastes like hose water

It is straight tap water. We have good water here, and I've used it all (only around 6) of my other batches with good results, including this same batch of Coors Light clone. Maybe I need to head to a cool Rocky Mountain stream.

My beer tastes like hose water

This is my second time brewing this recipe for a Blonde Ale. The first was fantastic. This one has a taste that I can only compare to drinking straight out of a hose. I first noticed the hose taste, then thought back to brew day. My chiller was leaking from the clamp for a minute before I...

    Typical IPA time in primary

I've been wondering this too. I mostly do IPA's and pale ales. I keg, so no bottle bombs. If you rush, what's the worst that's going to happen?

    keg aged?

When you do transfer to a keg and don't plan on drinking immediately (either purposely for aging or just waiting until a tap opens up) what pressure to do you leave it at? Is it possible to put 20?, 30? psi in there and let it age a couple weeks and carb simultaneously? I currently have 2 kegs...

    .5 oz extra hops

That's what I was thinking too. I had the feeling "do it" would be the popular opinion on here. This is a recipe from my LHBS, so I'll likely do it again if it's good. Part of me says to follow it by the letter the first time. Then, start tweaking it. On the other hand, this will be my new...

    .5 oz extra hops

I brewed this IPA recipe last weekend. 5 gal. batch. https://www.brewtoad.com/recipes/soco-town-lake-ipa-se I have .5 oz of extra citra hops left over. I was think about chunking them to dry hop, just because I like hops. Would that small amount of hops even be worth the trouble/risk of...

    Is this beer infected?

That's kind of why I like the bucket. I'm about as experienced as you and would also be obsessing over whether or not everything looked alright. If you had left the bucket closed for another week or two, this stuff probably would have dropped before you ever had a chance to freak out.

Nylon spoon partially burnt to bottom of pot

It will take years to develop a stomach tumor. Drink up!

    Water efficient wort chilling

I boil water a few days before and put in StarSanned tubberware. I then reapply starsan to the outside of the tubberware before using just in case it gets a little dip in the wort. Boil more than you think you'll need or have a backup plan. I ran out of ice the first time I tried and ended up...

    Water efficient wort chilling

I don't have any data tables (and I am still a beginner), but here in Central Texas we have the same combo of severe drought and warm ground water. If you are going to use a wort chiller, I'd think a pre chiller would be worth its weight in precious water. I'll probably go this way as my brewing...

LHBS (when your LHBS Stinks and it is time to walk away)

It sounds like you were setting yourself up for disappointment even before this cream ale debacle. You already knew the owner and lady behind the counter didn't know much about brewing. I'm an avid mountain biker and have walked into shops were it was obvious that I was more knowledgable than...
