starting a second batch before first batch finishes?

Although when I was looking into buying a carboy from Northern, I found that glass carboys were not included in their flat rate. Not sure about the others though.

starting a second batch before first batch finishes?

I'm a noobie, with two batches made and none in bottles (or kegged) yet. So, I didn't wait. Couldn't. Tasted the hydrometer sample I took on Saturday from the first batch. That was the first taste of my own beer. It was flat, of course, but wonderful. I love this.

    Is blowoff desirable?

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like there's consensus that there's no good reason to WANT blowoff (unless you're trying to collect yeast that way). That's useful to know. I also appreciate all the info about buckets and carboys, although I wasn't initially asking about that. One of the...

First Bottle of my first brew ever.

Congrats! I liked the pictures. I'm looking forward to my first, but it's not in the bottle yet. :) I'm glad yours turned out!

    Is blowoff desirable?

Good to see there are people who love the bucket. I'm still getting a feel for the pros and cons of glass and plastic. I've seen a lot of posts from people on here who use all glass. Two drawbacks to the bucket I ran into with my first batch are (1) I got suckback from the airlock into the beer...

    Is blowoff desirable?

Thanks for the replies so far. Yeah, I should have explained a little more. I already have a 5 gallon carboy that I use for conditioning/secondary. And I have a 7 gallon bucket for primary. I've only done one batch of beer so far, and I really wanted to be able to see what is going on. I also...

    Is blowoff desirable?

I want to get a glass carboy for primary fermentation. With the HBS I'm looking at, I can choose between 5 gal, 6 gal, and 6.5 gal. Which should I get? I know blowoff can still happen with 6.5, but would be less likely than with 6 or 5 gal. I've read several different discussions about blowoff...

    Is this a good idea?

I'm brand new to this, but I read that pouring hot wort can oxidize it, which can lead to either a wet-cardboard taste later on, or a short shelf life for your beer. Do a search for "hot-side aeration". Some say it's a real thing, and others dispute it. I don't know because I have no personal...

    Interested, but not sure...

Welcome back to your own thread, Ronzo! :) You've probably seen it already, but the beginner forum on this site has a sticky about Mr. Beer. Awesome! Like others have said, it's easier to start with ales (and porter is a kind of ale) than lagers. Almost two years passed from the time I...

    Homebrewer from Utah

I thought their staff was friendly too, but I'm not too impressed with the Belgian White kit. It came with sweet orange peel rather than bitter, and the coriander looks to be Moroccan rather than Indian. Of course, I haven't tasted it yet...it's still fermenting. I"m hoping it turns out good...

    Homebrewer from Utah

Thanks for the tip. I ordered my next kit, along with a bunch of other supplies I needed. from there. Good to know. I don't make it to SLC very often, but I'll keep Arts in mind and try that first when I do. Thanks.

    Homebrewer from Utah

Hi. I'm just down the road in Provo, but lived in Orem for years. I also went to the Beer Nut in SLC. Boiled my first wort yesterday (the Belgian White kit from Beer Nut) and it's bubbling away in primary fermentation now. Anyway, glad to hear of a near-neighbor getting into the hobby as well. :)
