Need help with my extract kit Altbier

Thanks. It's a cold, cold winter in north/central Utah right now!

Need help with my extract kit Altbier

Thank you. I plan to rack to the carboy tomorrow and store at around 50 F for a while then.

Need help with my extract kit Altbier

I brewed and pitched an Altbier from Midwest Supplies on January 8. Instructions for the kit are here. My brew notes are here. Everything seems to be going fine so far, but I have a question about what steps I should take next with this beer. After doing a bit of searching and reading about this...

Best Apfelwein for beginner to make?

I'm trying to decide between EdWort's Apfelwein, and Brandon O's Graff (insipired by Ed's Apfelwein). I guess the advantage of Ed's is that it's easier (no boiling) and the advantage of Brandon's is that it's a bit smoother going down and doesn't need as long to condition? Ultimately, I'll...

Head retention suffers when using Whirlfloc?

Great! Good to hear. Thanks everyone. I probably should have posted this in the beginning/noob forum. I'm in that category. If a moderator reads this, please feel free to move it for me.

Head retention suffers when using Whirlfloc?

In your experience, does head retention suffer when using Whirlfloc or other refining agents? What about body, mouthfeel, and taste? I've read a lot about Whirlfloc, and it seems clear (ha) that it helps reduce or even eliminates cloudiness. But I was listening to the June 10, 2010 edition of...

    Bought my last Corona

My wife made fish tacos today, and I found myself thinking that Corona with lime would go well with it. I probably haven't bought my last Corona after all. Are there any ale styles that would pair well with fish tacos?

    good brewing iPhone app?

I bought brewpal, and it seems really nice. It can do a lot. However, I could not find anyplace in brewpal to indicate I do a partial volume boil and then add top-off water in the fermenter. I've read that partial boil effects certain things such as IBU calculations, so I assume the brewpal IBU...

Brewing with Honey: Boil vs. Flameout

Yeah, I think the answer is neither. At flameout is still too hot. Here is an older thread on the same topic with a lot of responses. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/why-not-boil-honey-76634/

Brew Master - was that it?

That's good news. My wife and I enjoy his show. I hope that means he'll make new episodes. Drinking Made Easy is fun and all, but seems to be missing something Three Sheets had. International travel, obviously, but something else I can't quite identify that made that show better, imo.

    Pale Liquid Extract

I've read that liquid extracts darken in storage and when exposed to heat. It may be that online vendors are hesitant to stock pale liquid extract for that reason. Perhaps you could try a light or very light dry malt extract (dme) instead, such as this one...

    Bought my last Corona

It's not that I wouldn't drink a Corona. It's just that there are so many other beers that I'm aware of now. :) For old times sake, I'll probably ask for one the next time I'm at a poker table in Vegas, just for old times sake and because I know they have it.

    Bought my last Corona

Sound good. :) They sell fresh honey at Winco? I want to try making mead eventually. I wonder if that would be a good place to get the honey. I think my first choice though will be my friend in Logan who keeps hives on his farm property. I just need to wait for the right time of year to ask him...

18 inches of snow = time to brew

If nothing else, you'll be covered if your wort chiller malfunctions. :)

    Bought my last Corona

Howdy neighbor! I like the "What would Jesus brew?" in your profile. Seems like anywhere I live in Utah (and I've lived in Orem too) I am across the street from a stake center and can see three churches from my house. Sometimes all you can do is RDWHAHB to survive here. :mug:

    Bought my last Corona

LOL...the one I'm talking about comes all the way from Lehi...but still part of Happy Valley. Seriously, there are a handful of us at least. :D

    Bought my last Corona

I used to think I liked Corona. Then I got into craft beers and it opened up my world. But when a certain friend of mine who likes Corona comes over to our place, I still buy it before he comes. The last couple times he's come over, I've had a mix of Corona and craft beers, and on his most...

    Naming your brews

I often drink beer while playing poker, so the Belgian Wit that is getting close to bottling is "Bad Beat Wheat" and the Altbier I made last Saturday is "All-In Alt". I've only made two so far, but I'll probably keep with the poker theme. I think the advice given in this thread to wait until...

    Walgreens is brewing now

I'd say you were on to something, except it sounds like this beer comes in cans.
