Value of brulosophy exbeeriments, others experience, myths and beliefs

I live in a remote area where supplies and Homebrewers are in extremely rare supply. Brulosophy has taught me more about brewing beer than anyone else has. My beer has never been easier to make and has never tasted better. I don't know where I would be without Marshall and his crew.

Switching to all grain - fly sparging vs. batch sparging

Go 10 gal cooler, you'll be happier in the future when u wish you had a larger cooler. I make 10 gal batches, and I've got only two vessels to brew with. A 10 gal cooler and a 15 gal keggle. Heat water in keggle, transfer to cooler. Dump in grains and mash rest. Stir every 20 min. Heat up...

Is it ok to brew beer if I don't have a beard ??

I've got a goat so I barely meet the requirements. Thank god cuz I brew a lot.

    Increasing Efficiency

I always log my efficiency. Making 10gal batches, if u use 20-25 lbs of grain, (5% beer) my efficiency is really good, 78-82%. If I use more than 25 lbs grain my efficiency take a hit. I mill my own grains, and batch sparge. Always in 79-81 range as long as I'm paying attention. Also I stir the...

    Label Removal Thread

Just an fyi if those bud bottles are twist off, i don't recommend using them. The glass is very thin at the twist off neck, and you will experience a lot of breakage when u try to bottle. Stick with pop tops.

What I did for beer today

Hooked up an stc-1000 temp control unit on a fridge for some random guy I didn't even know. Just because he was a home brewer.

    cleaning bottles with oxyclean

1 scoop oxyclean per 50 bottles. Let soak overnight. Labels usually fall off or scrub with a sponge. Rinse well and hang to dry. I also use a spray bottle filled with star San to sanitize. Couple squirts per bottle and hang to dry. Been using this method for 3 years. Zero infections, zero problems.

To Trub or Not to Trub

Don't sweat that, it's a good question. I follow the brulosophers method to a T. I transfer all the trub into the fermentor, after fermentation is complete, cold crash and fine with gelatin. Carefully rack the beer off the trub cake when it's time to package. My beer has never been clearer and...

    JaDed Hydra Review

Hydra is amaze-balls!! Seriously it's the one piece of equipment I couldn't brew without. Water temps are pretty high here in Hawaii. Used to screw with a cruddy homemade wort chiller, then a pump and a plate chiller, and ice chest after ice chest full of ice. Hydra made all that noise go away...

    Confession Time

If your water is good enough to drink, it's good enough to make beer with. I used to buy the water at the store, beer always turned out great. Then, since I'm cheap, I got an rv filter for my hose. Been using that for a couple years now, changing the filter every 4-6 months. Good to go.

    Help chilling wort

+1 on the jaded hydra chiller. It's 75 feet of outstanding copper coils and I love it. I can get wort down to 80 in 5-8 minutes depending on groundwater temps. Save the water in buckets and use it for washing brew day equipment or watering the plants. Or i will just transfer wort into carboys...

What are you doing instead of brewing this weekend?

Making homemade limoncello. It's surprisingly easy to do and will make some nice gifts for the holidays.

    What are you drinking now?

Homebrewed Munich helles. It came out just alright, but it's a nice fizzy yellow beer so not bad for summer temps.

    What's your next brew? Why?

Next beer will be biermunchers centennial blonde (good for this hot summer) or a split batch of pale ale, half of which I'll make a mango or a passion fruit pale ale.

What Are You Drinking Your Beer Out Of?

I live in a warm area. Yeti tumbler, hydroflask pint glasses are both awesome for keeping it cold. If it's nighttime, I have mason jar mugs with a handle attached. Pretty awesome and tough to break.

Outdoor Brewers - what do you do in the winter?

In Maui the winters are pretty tough to brew as well. See attached pic

    Storage w/ Gamma Seal lids

I love to see the guys on here who are very thrifty. Hey it's your hobby, u do what u want with it. Nothing wrong with making it as economical as possible. I live on an island in the pacific. Every single thing I use for brewing is either scrounged (free) or bought online + shipping (pricey)...
