    Grain mill stopped working

I threw away the hand crank once I bought this mill. I do 10 gal batches and sometimes were talking 20+ lbs of grain. I’m way too lazy to hand crank that.

    Grain mill stopped working

Thanks for all the great advice guys. Update- Still using my old barley crusher, I set my rollers to a wider gap, ran the grain through, then set the rollers to credit card width and ran it again. The double crush method worked just fine. Happy with result for now. Will update tomorrow with...

    Increasing Efficiency

“I see some have commented in that efficiency doesnt really matter on a homebrewing level but find the CONSISTENCY of being able to accurately predict and account for the efficiency and alter the recipe based upon that to be the most valuable thing about dialing my system in, and if I can save...

I'm going to do my first brew tomorrow!

Congrats on your purchase of jaded hydra. I’ve had mine for 5 years and it cools wort down like a boss. Cooling down wort as fast as possible is desirable. Some argue that it’s not that important but that’s another matter... For now put your boil kettle in the sink with ice to cool it down. Keep...

    Grain mill stopped working

I’ve read about a lot of guys who double crush. Maybe that’s the answer.

    Grain mill stopped working

Yeah I’m willing to give that a shot. Beats shelling out $200 for a new mill.

    Fitting kegs in my keezer

I use 2.5 gal kegs on the hump. Not ideal, but that’s what fits.
  8. B

    Grain mill stopped working

Yes. I adjust the gap larger, and it works fine. I’m just trying to get a fine crush and it doesn’t seem to want to cooperate

Help me plan my brew setup

1- move it outside 2- banjo propane burner. Cheap and quiet (and badass) 3- get a beer keg, find a welder to cut the top off and put a few ports in. Now u have a 15 gal indestructible kettle. 4- buy a 10 gal cooler off CL, put a ball valve in the nozzle area. That’s been my setup for 7 years...

    Immersion Chiller

I love my jaded chiller. I use garden hose quick disconnects on it so easy to attach hoses to both ends. After my brew day, I soak it in my brew kettle with oxyclean. Hose it off and it sits outside until next brew day. Just a quick rinse off before I throw it in the kettle during last 15...

    Grain mill stopped working

I’ve got a Barley Crusher grain mill. It’s worked like a champ for 4 years. Recently moved to BIAB so I adjusted the gap to credit card width, very fine crush. Since then, it’s been nothing but problems. It’s a 2 roller mill, so the one roller moved by my electric drill spins fruitlessly while...

Is My Beer Ready For Secondary Fermentation?

Don’t bother with secondary. After 2 weeks ish just bottle her up. You’ll be happy

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Just curious if I can ferment apfelwein with Montrachet yeast at room temp (which is around 78-80 at my house. I can’t tie up my small fermentation chamber for a year.

How long does Edwort's Apfelwine take to ferment?

Just curious if it’s ok to ferment this with Montrachet yeast in a spare carboy at my 78-82 F degree room temp. Its very warm where I live and I can’t tie up my fermentation chamber for a year.

Hazy/Unclear Beer- can I fix it?

I use 1/2 tsp gelatin for 1/2 cup of water per 5 gal batch. Microwave in 7 second bursts, stirring each time, until 145 to 150 degrees. Dump right in keg. In a day or two it’ll clear right up. Easy.

    Bazooka screen uses

I’ve never transferred to secondary. But I’m only interested in fast turnaround times for my beer. It usually sits in carboys for 2 weeks, cold crash, fine with gelatin and keg. Grain to glass in 17 days with crystal clear beer.

Stay with BIAB... Or move on to "Regular" all grain brewing?

Good setup. You’re doing it right. With a 10 gal pot, you’re gonna be sticking with 5 gal batches (or maybe 6-7gal). I like the ease and simplicity of what you have going on. Plus the easy cleanup makes it worthwhile. All home brewers know the frustration of washing and cleaning everything after...

Stay with BIAB... Or move on to "Regular" all grain brewing?

I’ve been brewing 10 gal batches for 4 years. With a insulated cooler for a mash tun and a keggle for my boil pot. After too many stuck sparges with a braided sleeve, I moved onto BIAB. I use the bag for mashing and sparging only. Very happy with the results, and my efficiency has gone up...

IPAs losing hop flavor in keg

When you hang the bag in the keg using dental floss, do you string it through the large lid (not the gas valve or beverage valve) and simply close the lid on the dental floss? Never done that before, so just wondering.
