    To recirculate or not- EBIAB

I just switched to that exact setup. My 20 gal ss brewtech kettle from HG has all the hoses, pumps, etc. I was recirculating with the basket inside, lined with the brew bag. The basket kept overflowing, spilling grain into the kettle. Even with the pump on super low. I’m ditching the basket and...

What Sanitisers and Cleaners are used.

I bought the big 32oz star San when I started brewing. I’ve been continually brewing beer for 7-8 years and I’m just now reaching the end of the bottle. What an amazing value and not once did I have a single infection.

Thanks all for the great advice. I’ll definitely heat up the pbw and recirculate on the next brew day. Even got some scrub daddy sponges to use on the coils.

How’s your cleaning process so far on the ss brewtech kettles? I’ve got a 20 gal, so a little tough to lift and rinse out. I’ve been using PBW and running it thru the pump for 20 min with cold water, but still have buildup and gunk on the coils. Next time I’m goin to heat the water while it’s...

Good call gonna ditch the basket on next brew and let bag sit directly on coil. Fingers crossed!

Sadly I have a crappy mill that will only mill on a thicker gap. So I pass it through twice. I’ll definitely not tighten the gap so small on the second pass from now on. I’ve seen those false bottoms on brew hardware, they look awesome! Not trying to buy more equipment for the time being but...

Conditioning for 10 min is not a bad idea. I’ll try that next. And then start the pump very slowly.

Yes getting a lot of foaming. And i use the brew bag for biab mesh filter.

    High Gravity Custom eBIAB System

Done 4 brews on my high gravity setup and encountered some problems. Got the ss brewtech 20 gal pot setup. Most brews are about 23 lbs grain, double milled, with 15 gal of water (10 gal batch). Using the stainless steel basket lined with the brew bag, and the pump connected to the spray nozzle...

    Cleaning ss brewtech kettle

I used pbw for the first time cleaning my ss brewtech kettle. With a “scrub daddy” sponge. Recirculated the pbw and water for 10 min and let soak for 30 min. Then rinsed out. Unfortunately one of the etched gallon markers got wiped off (just part of it). So in the future I guess I’ll avoid...

My first beer I brewed on this system turned out great. Tasted delicious. I just made my 2nd in it and ran into problems... I milled my grain way too fine. So during the recirculating mash, it did not drain very well, leaving too much liquid in the brewbag/stainless steel basket. As a result...

Lots of great comments on this thread. FWIW I don’t worry too much about cloudy wort, hop/grain matter, or excessive trub making it into my fermentors. I ferment for 2 weeks, cold crash, and fine with gelatin. Beer always comes out crystal clear and I’ve never experienced off-flavors. I realize...

    High Gravity Custom eBIAB System

Quick question for all who brew with the high gravity single vessel BIAB system- do you leave the pump running during the boil? My pump is primed with wort, so when I reach boil, I’m thinking “there’s wort in the lines not getting boiled” so I have been turning the pump on and off briefly during...

Yes can definitely recirculate thru whirlpool arm. But liquid is drawn out thru the bottom of kettle at the ball valve, and the whirlpool arm also empties into the bottom of the kettle. For mashing, I don’t think it would offer much benefit...

    High Gravity Custom eBIAB System

I was left with an extra 1.5 gal of wort. Had I just used the amount of water BeerSmith called for, I’m sure I would have less, and maybe my efficiency would have been a little better. I hit 1.039 OG for 72% efficiency. Not bad, but i double crush my grains and have reached higher efficiency...

With my jaded immersion chiller going, I turned the controller back to mash setting so i could moniter the temp as the wort cooled down. I also turned on the pump to recirculate the wort through the arm while it chilled. chilling down 11.75 gal of wort to groundwater temp took 13 min. I...

One strange thing, no beep from the controller when 212 degrees was reached. Again I don’t care and I’m sure that can be adjusted in the controllers settings somewhere. Just weird that it beeped a lot during the mash and no beep at all during the boil phase. I didn’t add any fermcap, wanting to...

    High Gravity Custom eBIAB System

I got this sweet pulley system from brewbag website. The worthog controller did beep a lot during the mash. I’m sure it was just cycling power on and off to maintain the correct mash temp. I also believe you can edit the beeping noise by reading the manual. I didn’t really care too much. I...

    High Gravity Custom eBIAB System

My review. Pretty much the easiest brew day ever. I’ve been using a propane fired kettle and igloo cooler for mashing for 6 years. Wish I made the switch to electric sooner. I bought the ssbrewtech 20 gal kettle from high gravity since I wanted to do full volume BIAB. I make 10 gal batches...

    Cleaning ss brewtech kettle

I realize this may be the wrong area to post this, but I can’t post in Equipment/Sanitization for some reason. Just got a new electric ss brewtech kettle. It says specifically not to clean with oxyclean. My old keggle I would just fill with oxyclean and water, dump all my equipment in there...
