    How much did yours cost.

Like any other hobby, you can go as crazy as you want on equipment. Some of us are economical, some of us like the bright shiny things. I keep my setup pretty simple and am happy with it. Modified keggle w parts, 150 Bayou classic burner 100 Propane tanks 50 Grain mill 75 Food grade buckets...

    Why no love for bleach?

You're talking about two different things, cleaning and sanitizing. Both are necessary steps for your equipment. Bleach can be used for cleaning, you just have to rinse the heck out of it afterwards. That's a lot of water waste. I use oxyclean. It's still cheap and does the job well. After your...

    Looking to upgrade

Yes I have a chest freezer with an stc-1000 control set on it. There are a lot of tutorials on here how to wire that into the chest freezer. That alone has made the biggest difference in the quality of beer I have made.

    Looking to upgrade

Fermentation chamber is definitely the most important piece I own. Couldn't make beer without it, so that's my #1 choice. Sounds like you already have a stir plate. Grain mill is good, some airtight bins for grain storage, a stronger burner like a bayou classic, digital bakers scale, vacuum...

    Vent-matic Faucets Status?

I got 4 of the vent matic faucets for a keezer build right before the company went down. I was emailing them about some 90 degree shanks and all of a sudden they stopped answering. Bummer about that. But i will say that I've never been happier with my faucets. They are great solid construction...

    Fermentation chamber probe thoughts

I just tape the probe to the side of carboy with a piece of insulation covering probe. Works like a charm. Probe in the air = ambient temp. Good for ramping up temp at the end of initial fermentation or cold crashing.

    Bottle caps and Starsan

I have used both the regular cheap caps and the o2 barrier caps. I used to soak them in star San before bottling. Then I just stopped doing it cuz it seemed an unnecessary step. To be honest I haven't noticed any difference whatsoever in the 2 practices. But beer doesn't last very long in my...

    Refrigerate after bottling?

When I bottled, I would keep the beer at room temp for 2 weeks minimum. Then put em in the fridge, a 6 pack at a time to enjoy.

    Starsan Still Good?

I keep mine in glass one gallon jugs stored outside for months. That stuff lasts a long time. Never had an issue or an infection.

    Least favorite thing about Homebrewing?

+1 on everything else that's already been said here- I lack patience, so this hobby is hard sometimes. I don't mind cleaning too much, but brewing is 75% washing dishes. I didn't mind bottling when I did it, it's kinda cool to have all ur beer in portable units. But I keg now so life is much...

    What's a better capper?

I've got both bench capper and butterfly capper. to be honest I love the red butterfly capper. I've bottled 1000's of bottles with it. Stick with domestic bottles and no problem.

What got you into the hobby?

Was dating a girl and started making cider to try and get her buzzed. The cider turned out terrible. Finally a buddy pointed out that I had most of the equipment needed to brew beer. Stopped making cider (which I hated) and started making extract kits. 3 years later, I'm a serious all grainer...

    Fermcap and Clarity

Never heard of using ferm cap during fermentation. I use it during boil, 12 drops per 10 gal batch. I also fine with gelatin after cold crashing and have had near mystical results in clarity.

Started brewing earlier in the day.... It was great!

I've only brewed in the mornings, since I work nights. Mill grains and collect water the day before. Up at 7, mashing in by 7:30. Make coffee and breakfast during mash. I've got it down to a routine by now, cleaning as I go, brew day is around 5 hours. I'm usually done and cleaned up by 1pm...

Stupid bayou classic won't stay lit

Any idea on how to keep bayou classic burners clean? Mine is stored outside in a covered area, and it's getting a bit rusty...

Is it the burner or the tank?

Any way to keep the burners clean? Mine sits outside, and it's starting to get rusty.

What I did for beer today

Cleaned a couple kegs for my ESB which should be ready in a few days. And put the lager starter on the stir plate for my next brew.

    Reducing effiency

Beersmith is not the most user friendly program, but you'll get the hang of it eventually. Watch some online tutorials. I have had it for 3 years now and love it. I never design a recipe or brew without it. It's an amazing tool!
