    Hazy/Juicy/NEIPA

My latest neipa is all flame out and whirlpool hops. Dry hop day 2, and post fermentation. Citra/Mosaic. Non beer drinkers love it.

Grainfather glycol chiller and Conical fermenter placement

I....would not try that. Get one of those cheap stainless tables off of amazon that has the lower shelf to place the chiller with the fermenter sitting above. That’s what i did with my penguin chiller.

Soon they’ll start serving them with a spoon and maybe a toothpick.

Chronicles, Bright Tanks, Unitanks OH MY!!!!

the CO2 in the keg is evacuated back into the fermenter. the white thing is a filter housing for a screen filter which i have used to help breakup or catch any hop particles before they clog up the quick disconnect.

Shaken keg doesnt want to clear anymore

seems like it's up to the hops at this point.

    Does vacuum remove oxygen?

purging kegs is so cheap and easy. i fill a keg completely with sanitizer solution and push it into another keg using the yeast-generated CO2 during fermentation. i can purge several kegs with pure CO2 during a single fermentation.

    Grainfather or Robobrew owners...

I have the Grainfather. I'm probably around 6 hours? I'm pretty in sync with the stages at this point. While strike water is heating, I'm making my coffee and then measuring and milling my grain. Take my time during mash in, plenty of stirring to avoid dough balls. Sparging takes what it takes -...

What have you jury-rigged in your brewery that works better than something you could buy ready-made?

not sure if qualifies, but i've started harvesting pure CO2 during active fementation while putting some unused kegs to work: IMG_1313 by speavler posted Dec 12, 2018 at 6:47 PM Dan, I have a similar setup on my chronical, but without the "T" - just a plain 3" spool that I can connect above...

    Does vacuum remove oxygen?

Why need a pump? My occasional process uses the vacuum created in my fermenter after a cold crash to suck in the CO2 from a connected corny keg which simultaneously pulls in the beer from the fermenter. closed loop transfer.

How often to use PBW for keg

after each use. i have a utility pump with a CIP ball attached via a pvc pipe. pump goes in the bucket. pbw goes in the bucket. disassemble and flip keg over onto the pump. easy peasy. basically the Mark's Keg Washer (which I have), but with a stronger pump and CIP ball. kegs are then filled...

Chronicles, Bright Tanks, Unitanks OH MY!!!!

haha, what part? i really just meant to show the chronical BME's. i added 3 inch valves on the lids to be able to seal off the fermenter for cold crashing, swapping blowoff cane for the gas post, dry hopping, etc. this was taken during a closed transfer to a keg. beer goes into keg and pushes...

Chronicles, Bright Tanks, Unitanks OH MY!!!!

IMG_1259 by speavler posted Dec 5, 2018 at 6:35 PMI have a couple of the chronical BME's. I also considered a unitank and sometimes try to talk myself into a brite tank, but why? put that money into a glycol chiller for the chronical.

    Unboxing the Penguin Chiller

I believe the hysteresis on the ftss controller is at the factory default of 1 but I’ll double check that. I think a lower value will just kick in the heating cycle quicker though, which isn’t ideal. These are 7 gallon fermenters with 6 gallon batches. Conceptually, wouldn’t I want to be able...

    Unboxing the Penguin Chiller

I had an issue with trying to maintain a 65 degree fermentation temperature with my penguin chiller. the temp in the fermenter kept dropping well after the pump shut off, by another 2 degrees or so. so my overall variation was something like 4 degrees. adjusting the glycol temp from 28 all the...

Correct gas hose for pressure transfer

there is a 3" tc to ball lock gas post that includes a PRV. that's what i use on my chronicle BME. you'd need to use a 3" to 1.5" reducer.

Dry hopping in a SS Brew Tech Chronical

Be sure to rotate the racking arm so that it is vertical when transferring to keg, otherwise it will pull in hop matter that sticks to the walls of the cone. I always set mine up pointed to the left and then rotate the entire valve to the right approx 90 degrees.
