    Keg Cleaning

I used my Mark II about twice before I switched to using a much stronger utility pump in a bucket and a CIP ball. Kegs sit on the pump and kind of wedged upright using some big pvc pipe and leaning against my utility sink. Not pretty but gets the job done very well. I use the same pump and CIP...

    Comparing electric brew system

Do I wish I had DIY'd? No. The DIY process seems like a hobby of its own, which is fine. But I crank out ales with 14 pound grain bills all day long with the Grainfather. I'm not a big fan of its recent controller app updates, however. But the small footprint setup really works for me. If I...

Conical in Upright Freezer vs External Glycol Chiller pros/cons/cost

Before I invested in the glycol chiller, I used a side-by-side fridge with a bucket of glycol and two pumps in the freezer side with insulated heater hoses run through the in-door ice dispenser. I have a pic of that setup somewhere. It worked well with two fermenters, except for cold crashing...

    Grainfather!!

I wish i could say the same. It's like the controller and app are on different pages. I click ok on the controller to start the mash and the next thing i know it's going onto the mashout. trying to manually go to a step while temp is steadily increasing just puts me in a fit of rage. i am so...

    Grainfather!!

I agree with this sentiment. I often will edit recipes on the fly during a brew. The app just cannot handle this. An input will say (in gal) but actually calculates in liters. I'll enter a sparge time for 60 minutes and it'll count down 60 seconds. It literally did a 60 second sparge, folks...

    Grainfather!!

I came here to bitch about the new app after this weekend's brewing session. They turned a controller app into some sort of social networking effort. I have to sift through brewing articles now? I wanted to edit the mash temp of one of my recipes I was about to brew and i swear it took 10...

    VERY DRY ipa

I like my IPA's dry. Often mash at 149. As stated above, bump up your mash temp to add some body.

    Avoiding cold crash O2 suckback

If I had a brew bucket I’d get the domed lid with the 3” tc flange. Then you could add a 3” butterfly valve, shut the valve during cold crash, add a gas post tc manifold to be able to add co2 to offset negative pressure before racking. Also allows for pressurized/closed transfers to kegs. A...

What happens when it’s time to rack?

    Avoiding cold crash O2 suckback

this is basically what I have rigged up, but I really only use it to purge kegs with CO2. When I cold crash, I just close the valve I have attached to the lid of my fermenter, then before racking to keg, attach my CO2 to the gas post attachment and crack open the valve. See my media for a visual.

    The Year Of Beer

Brew more and share more. I bought a 2.5 gallon keg that fits neatly inside my rolling cooler along with a CO2 bottle so I can roll it over to the neighbors, down to the pool, tailgating, etc. I think I'll prefer this to growlers where I'm always worried about oxidation and beer going flat.

What silly things frugal brewers do!

How: basically the "CO2 harvester kit" concept but with kegs. after a day or so of fermentation, i attached a hose from the fermenter to the sanitizer-filled keg. and you can daisy-chain the kegs if you want. this was from my first attempt. i now have the second keg (or last keg in the chain)...

Cold weather, glycol, and wort chiller question

not clear on how the wort is being chilled. do you have coils submerged in the wort through which you circulate the water/coolant?

Airlock Chamber in Unitank to Dry Hop under pressure?

you can adjust the prv by tightening the spring, but you're probably right - not ideal for higher unitank pressure.
