    Sauerkraut FAIL

I've never tried flavoring mine. My cabbage friend used to do his with garlic, but I alwasy liked it straight up. The saddest part is this is the first batch my 6-year old really helped with. I don't think it was her doing, and she doesn't really think it is either.

    Sauerkraut FAIL

Hey all, Not really sure why I'm posting this here, but I had my first Sauerkraut failure over the weekend. I'd been doing kraut for 6 or 7 years now, maybe longer. I used to get free cabbage from a gardener friend of mine, but over the last few years I'd been buying store cabbages...

How do you save your cooling water?

I almost always do two 5 gallon batches in a brew day. So I will use the discharged cooling water to fill my next batch's water needs. Then I’ll use it to do any rinsing/cleaning I can do, especially in the second batches cooling. Then I’ll water some flowers if it’s not too hot. Otherwise, I’ll...

    Show us your Kegerator

I finally put a drip tray on mine. Found a cheap one and found a scrap piece of plywood that was the exact size as needed. I will get a proper piece of wood and stain it to look nicer. I mean, I probably won't just leave it like this . . .

    Wine/Barrel Thief?

I think my very first homebrew kit came with a plastic thief. Probably the 3 piece one? I hadn't thought about just using a length of tube. Makes sense.

Interested in growing my own beer garden

I think this is a very interesting idea. Do you know any local farmers with a small seed drill? Guys that do cover crops have them. It may be more work to clean the machine out than it's worth, but . . . Now harvest will be the worst part. I can't think of any 'easy' way to do that. Other...

    Random Picture Thread

I've actually seen a "truck" like that here in town. Except he's only got 6 doors on it. I think.

    The Home Made Pizza Thread

That is one of our family's favorites! Last year I did it with homemade corned beef, homemade kraut, and store crust. I need to up my crust game o_O

    Brew room design questions

The roof will help a lot, but I understand your snow/ice predicament. I'm curious what they'll say . . .

The "I'd nevervdrink that if it were ALL that was available" thread

Our Sams Clubs carry about any macro you can find, plus your New Belgiums, SNPA, Sam Adams, etc. Heck, they even carry some local craft beers as well. :mug:

    Prepare apples without a press

I don't have anything to add, other than having apples and no press. My parents have 5 or 6 good sized apple trees, so it'd basically be free to get a pickup load of apples. My mom makes a lot of apple sauce, but you can only eat so much of that! I've watched the Youtube videos about people...

    Battery Powered Lawn Equipment

I'm probably going to sell my Stihl gas string trimmer after a season with my Dewalt Battery one. The leaf blower is really convenient, but doesn't have enough CFM to replace my gas one.

    Brew room design questions

Vulkem? an inch might be getting kinda wide, but you could get some foam backers to put in that would work? I don't know if you'd want to slob vulkem into a 1 x 1 cavity

    Brew room design questions

Looking good. We actually had a new driveway poured about this same time. Back when it was damn near 100! Which isn't good for concrete either . . .

    The Home Made Pizza Thread

Nothing to add other than the fact my parents got me a new pizza steel for my birthday. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm excited.

    Brew room design questions

Awesome thread. I see you're in Iowa, the metro? That's where I'm at. I do not have a brew room, but have a couple unistrut trolleys around for things and they are great. I mounted mine to wood, but don't see why you couldn't use them here.

    Greater Tolerance for Sour Beer

Just wild speculation, but I'm in the camp that thinks you've goofed up your gut. The pH or messed with the natural order of things in there.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I have a Dewalt 20V one. Just got it this spring, but I really like it. I think the head is a little smaller diameter than my Stihl gasser was. But other than that it's fine. No real comment on battery life. I only trim for 10 minutes every time, if that. My mom has the same one and I...
