Tell Me Your Favorite Brewery/Brewpub in Portland

Deschutes can be REALLY bad. Typical wait for prime-time dining (5pm-9pm) Can be 45 minutes to an hour wait. Bridgeport can be that way a bit too, but not usually as bad. But thats for the main dining, you can always just walk into the bar and sit down if you find a table.

Tell Me Your Favorite Brewery/Brewpub in Portland

I live in Portland, And while I have been to both Deschutes breweries in both Bend and Portland, I like em both. Its brewed in Bend, yes... But the Portland location is one of my favorite brew pub experiences. Excellent Food, great service, best beer in town, and the location is really nice and...

    Cleaning vs. Sanitizing

You might be out of luck, but you won't know until you try it. I know my first brew I made some sanitation mistakes, but it turned out ok. Just let it ride and see what happens. Cleaning = Remove debris, and physical grim. Sanitizing = Removing MOST (not all) bacteria that might be present...

    Iphone apps for home brewing?

I wish they would updated Brew Pal to support the native iPhone 4 resolution. But for a newer brewer (look! im a poet), I find that Brew Pal gives me what I need to know.

    first brew

Its amazing how much patience you will find you have after the first "panic" brew. I have found that i can easily let my brew do its thing without constantly checking in on it.

16 hours and no airlock activity

I find that when I used the yeast in a couple beer kits, the fermentation took a while to start showing VISIBLE signs.

Oops... Added too many Hops to boil

Should I let it sit in the primary for a month, and then transfer it to a secondary for the second month and dry hop then?

Oops... Added too many Hops to boil

What would you recommend dry hopping with? I'm a newbie. So what is the purpose of it? Would I just add dry hops to the fermenter?

Oops... Added too many Hops to boil

Oops... Added too many Hops to boil

I was using the beer pal app on my phone and it said something to the tune of 108 IBU which seems high... But it also said I would be at 64 IBU if I did the recipe correctly.

I'd toast to that! By the way, You live in Gladstone. So do I! Nice to see some local homebrewers around me!

    Oh gosh...biggest noob mistake ever.

I'd say that would work the first 4-5 brews of a newer brewer. Just to make sure they don't miss a step. But once it becomes second nature, Drink up!

    Blow-off tube ?

If I didn't have a blow-off tube on my porter, it would have made one of the largest messes on homebrew record. haha. For the first 24-36 hours I had krausen constantly coming out the blow-off tube. So its definitely my insurance as well. I put it on right as im getting ready to leave the carboy...
