Question? Since when it foams a lot of your hop shows up in the foam you would not possibly take some of the bitterness out?

    gallon boil vs 4 gallons

Boil about 3 gallon. If you can take 2 gallons of pre-boiled water put in frezer as you start your batch pour this into your fermenter will help you cool down your wort quicker which will get you closer to your yeast pitching temp.

    Questions and opinions on sanitation

:cross: My main concern is that I don't get any little buggers . Sanitation I agree sometimes seems a little extreme to do but when you think about your finished product it really is'nt that bad. I would rather spend extra time with sanitation to be sure that my batch of beer is ok. But that is...

    Oak chips in the secondary?

I purchased a mead kit that came with oak chips. The instructions for it was to put the chips in a small sauce pan with a half pint water. Heat on stove and steep. Stir to get oak flavor. Longer you steep more flavor. Pour water into primary leaving oak chips behind.

    Buying raw ingredients

I go to my local hbs and try to buy at least enough grain and other supplies to do at least 2 brews. I spend around $25 which includes my wyeast. Also it is cheaper to buy all grains by the pound so I try to do 2 brews that are closeso that if I only need 4 oz of a grain for 1 and 6 oz for the...

    Carboy caps - airtight?

I have one that I purchased from my local hbs. The one I purchased was for a 6 gallon carboy. They also had a differant size for the 5 gallon carboy. If I remember the one that I took off the shelf was the bigger cap was really for the 5 gallon carboy. Mine seems to fit tight.

    MIA: Carbonation

I wouldn't dump it yet. I brewed a batch believe it might have been my first english ale I also stored it in my basement it was closer to a month before it showed carbonation. I don't stir when I add the priming sugar to bottleing bucket. I let my siphon hose lay on bottom of bucket. Knock on...

    making double batches

I did 10 gallons of wheat yesterday. I put into 2 fermenters. Did the best I could at making sure they had the same amount from brew pot then added about half gallon of water that I had already boiled to each to get my 5.5 gallons. Both are burping away. It really didn't take any longer to brew...
