BRAINSTORM: How would you use this heat exchanger?

This is a two chamber heat exchanger; unlike the single chamber RIMS tube. So I need an external heat source . Initial thought is great no scorching, second thought is it's probably going to be more complex that a std RIMS tube or HERMS coil to utilize this.

BRAINSTORM: How would you use this heat exchanger?

Ok, so I could not resist picking this up. It's a heat exchanger - the 1/2" inner tube has sanitary fittings on each end and the outer jacket has 1/2" FPT on each end. At first I thought indirect heat RIMS tube, but i don't think there'd be enough surface area to be effective running hot water...

    Cider in Beer Smith

Maybe Im missing the point of the question, but BeerSmith has 9 default cider styles and you can add a new style and new ingredients. In the Extract1.bsm recipe file, there is an Apple Cider recipe. If you haven't done so, add Apple Juice as a Sugar type ingredient.

Will tray ceiling act as a steam hood??

My original plan was to use this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0044IE992/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 which I picked up on craigslist ... but started the thread when I thought that the tray itself would act as a collection point using an inline 400CFM exhaust... either way I still have vent and...

Will tray ceiling act as a steam hood??

Collective: The room that is to become my eBrewery has a 12" tray ceiling. Do you think it would be sufficient to intall a vent and inline exhaust fan in the tray ... or should I install a vent hood? I actually purchased the hood, but i"m thinking the 12" tray may trap the steam and I can...

    Black stuff on heatsticks

Is your element under PID control, or is it running 100% all of the time? I wonder if at 100% for an hour or so you'd be collecting burnt sugars on there? Maybe a more experienced eBrewer (Kal, Rage) can comment with their experiences.

Why no USA immersion heat sticks like this one..

these are normally used for heating water for tea or coffee. I don't imagine the whole thing is intended to be immersed. We used to use these as a kid. It's be no problem to re-wire ... but recognize these are not grounded

    Sanitizing the beer thief

I use distilled (only for the spray bottle) because it keeps longer (months) and I'm always using the sprayer for corney connections, clamps, theif, bungs, spritz a valve before I open it .. you get it ... on brew days i use tap water in the bucket and beer in the brewer :mug:

    Island-style brew sculpture

Has anyone contemplated an efficient layout for an island style brew rig? I got the go-ahead to convert a 12x14 room in our basement into my eBrewery (ala, Kal's Electric) and yesterday I scored two brand new Arietta Lazio 36 In. stainless range hoods - I mean SCORED. I initially thought of...

Anyone have a Hanna 96811 Digital Refractometer?

Yes I have one of these -- thanks Mom for the xmas present You can use w/o compensation before you pitch. After that, the presence of alcohol will throw you off w/o a handy formula. I've use the MB spreadsheets for both beer and wine . Also, when I first started using the digital, I...
