What is the best brew app?

My calculation issues with iBrewMaster came with efficiency. I punched in a recipe and it was over 5 points low. I even took their potential grain yields and multiplied it out by hand and it came in where I expected. My IBUs were about 30 higher than expected as well. I know there are...

What is the best brew app?

I have iBrewMaster 2 and like it but the calculations for OG and IBUs seem goofy.

Looking for an all grain brewer in the Western/NW PA area or E/ NE Ohio

It's a shame that you are posting this now, on 11/2 we had a group brew day up in Erie with three of us doing all grain batches during our meeting. We also had a pretty big chinese auction and a lot of beer was drank. It would have given you a great introduction to the club and got all the...

Oxygen and Aging in a Keg

Ideally it would be fine but having the keg under pressure would help preserve the seal, which is important for any keg.

What to do with my wort?

Now we're getting somewhere! I was thinking one should be a Belgian. The grain bill fits as is for a Saison, but a little dark sugar could be a Dubbel? Hello, you had asked what they are selling it for. It's $10 per 5 gallons.

Come on guys, those are pretty tame suggestions! I want some crazy sh!t here!

What to do with my wort?

Next week a local brewery is selling 310 gallons of un fermented wort to our homebrew club. Each person is buying as much as they want. The idea is that each person would do something different to it and see the differences. We will be having a competition with the finished beers in January...

    Extract Sour Mash

+10000 If you have a kegging system, flush out your mash tun with CO2 whenever you disturb it. The sour mash will smell like cooked corn if the lacto are the only bugs. It will smell like vomit if other bugs take hold. You will ruin your marriage.

    Extract Sour Mash

Yes, you can sour mash without a proper mash. Use a handful of uncrushed grains and throw it into your wort at about 100*. Keep it that temperature (by adding boiling water every so often) in a mash tun and sample it every 8 hours or so. If kept at a good temperature, you should have a nice...

    Hop Spider or False Bottom?

A hop spider can be built for about $10 and in less than an hour. I recommend trying that first but have no input on a tri-level false bottom.

Festbier Bee Cave Brewery Oktoberfest Ale

Following the original recipe and fermented in the low 60's, this beer won first place in the Light & Amber Hybrid in HAZARD Homebrewing's HAZtoberfest BJCP competition entered as a Dusseldorf Alt. It's score was 40.5 and would have been higher if entered as a Northern German Alt according to...

    Mystery gas in CO2 tank?

Your concern is appreciated but I would have not done this if I wasn't 99% sure it was CO2

Zachattack, you gave me the exact info I was looking for. Thank you.

    Mystery gas in CO2 tank?

I was able to make dry ice with it. I am sure you can freeze things with liquid propane, but it's not considered dry ice. I am not certain what I made was "dry ice" but it acted exactly how dry ice does with the outgassing. I also filled a mason jar with the gas, and put a lit lighter into it...

    Mystery gas in CO2 tank?

The beer did taste fine. My plan was to try and make dry ice with it to confirm that it's CO2. I have read that Nitrogen and Argon need a much higher pressure tank. I just hope it's not oxygen and I'm not making 20 gallons of beer stale.

    Mystery gas in CO2 tank?

I bought a used CO2 tank from some friends. It has a sticker on it that clearly labels it as "CO2" and had a broken Tap Rite regulator on it. It was also full. I thought my friends had said that they had it filled. Last night I hooked it up and poured some beer. Today I texted my friend and...
