Salt Additions to MT - RO Water w/Herms

If you look up thread, there is a gentlemen that does not agree with your approach, it is why I am asking the question. Adding salt to the HLT and MT is not the same as adding the same amount of salts to the MT and BK. If you are saying they are close enough, then fine I'll accept that.

Salt Additions to MT - RO Water w/Herms

Understood, I was responding to Hotpepper13 and agreeing as to why we want to fly sparge RO water without salt additions.

Salt Additions to MT - RO Water w/Herms

I appreciate the answer. I also do not want to put salts in my HLT, then use lactic to get the PH right. I also do not have a large enough HLT so I end up having to measure salts twice, then on back to back days I end up having to dump water to refill. Depending on the profile I end up wasting a...

Salt Additions to MT - RO Water w/Herms

I sparge with untreated RO water and add some salts to the MT. How would you account for what salts carry over into the BK and what stays in the MT (which I think is necessary when trying to determine how much to add to the BK)?

Salt Additions to MT - RO Water w/Herms

I'll try asking the question another way, if I add 5 grams of say epsom salt to the MT, how much should I assume makes it into the BK? 100%? I'm fly sparging with RO water (no salts), so if I want to hit a target in my BK, don't I have to make a guess or does everyone assume100% of the epsom...

Salt Additions to MT - RO Water w/Herms

I'm brew with 3 vessel HERMs and RO water, I usually add all salts to BK and nothing to MT & HLT. Recently brewed where the grain bill needed quite a bit of latic acid to get to desired PH. Started scratching the noggin and thought why not use some of the salts in the MT to help get to desired...

    BlueTooth Wireless RTD Transmitter

I have existing RTDs throughout my brew system like these: RTD Sensors : Auber Instruments, Inc., Temperature control solutions for home and industry They are currently hardwired, which is hard to beat from a cost point of view. I also use them for distilling and the typical cheap PIDs are...

    BlueTooth Wireless RTD Transmitter

I have been playing around with Nordic blue tooth chips and have a decent low power solution for BlueTooth LE Wireless RTD Transmitter. Basically just a dongle that would plug into a RTD. Is this something that other brewers would be interested in? Looking for feedback.

    Mash Thickness and Efficiency

Thanks for sharing this work @doug293cz. Very useful learning tool. Pretty sure there is something silly I am missing! My question is about spreadsheet results as is (zero sparge steps). Why does the Mash total wort sg of 42.9 x ~7.71 gals = 330 not equal 355? Or asked another way, where did...

Ss brewtech mash tun temp problems

Not sure if this is your issue, but I have a 15 gallon SS Brewtech and I was getting a large temperature gradient across the grain bed. So I started looking a little closer and was surprised at the restriction in the SS Brewtech false bottom, the fitting/tubing on the false bottom (elbow) has an...
