    first year hops growth

Rather than worrying about drainage, I piled up dirt and compost and planted it in the mound. I used spent grains to mulch around it which is seemed to absolutely love. I only water every couple of days if it's been dry.

Not yet, want to wait until the census operation I'm working in is done. I've been far to busy to put much time into brewing.

Immediate help needed! I don't have a carboy cap that fits.

As long as it's fermenting actively enough, the escaping CO2 will prevent O2 from getting in.

    The RDWHAH experiment

Of course! no good spot to brew outside, no good sunlight spot inside Of course! I'll do number 1, but don't have clear bottles. I'll probably be using a glass carboy so I can watch the process. I've got a 7 and a 9 year old I can borrow from my brother. Can't boil over when you don't...

    espresso stout without espresso machine

Next time, you can just make espresso turkish style (not really espresso, but same idea) Basically, you take finely ground coffee, boil it in a pan, and let the grounds settle. decant off the coffee and there you go.

    The RDWHAH experiment

#2 is incompatible to forgeting the yeast for a day or two. I've pitched yeast early more than once though and never had an issue. The other suggestions have been added though

    The RDWHAH experiment

While brewing today, I got to thinking, what if every RDWHAH mistake was done on the same batch? So, in the interest of science (and beer), I propose the RDWHAH experiment. I will be intentionally make as many 'mistakes' brewing as possible, to include: No sanitization of ANY brewing equipment...

    Need expert oppinions

Another option is to serve it warm. Heat some water and warm the bottles in it before serving to get it up to temp. That's whaat I'm doing currently. Just make sure it's under 170 degrees so you don't boil off the ethanol. Just wish I had some star anise to add...

    kegerator conversion: CO2 placement?

Ok, so converting a minifridge into a kegerator and have enough room for my 5 gal and 3 gal, but no place to put the co2 tank. Is there any reason not to keep the CO2 outside the fridge other than keeping from drilling another hole?
