What are my options for lightweight, temporary bottling?

plastic soda bottles are exactly what you want here. There should be no issue with carbonation though I'd let them rest a while after being jostled around on the hike. You could carb in the plastic bottles or force carb in a keg before transfering. I'd lean toward bottle conditioning if you've...

    hey

In all honesty, the mr beer kit I got was unimpressive. You should look at mr beer kits as cheap introduction to brewing toys, not serious beer making equipment. If you go cheap you can probably put together a "real" brewing kit for not too much more. Here's what you need: primary fermenter 5...

What do I choose? Like a kid in a candy store!

stouts aren't too bad. I started out with a maple red that came out great. You could also do an IPA. As far as temp, do you have a cellar that stays cooler?

    Flip Top Bottle Carbonation Issues

Stored on the side seems to work on mine. Thank you for giving me an excuse to pop one and check!

    Flip Top Bottle Carbonation Issues

I've been having issues with carbonation on 1l flip tops as well. About to try some from one stored on it's side instead of upright. I'll report back shortly

    flip tops and flat beers

2 more bottles opened for tasting. Both under carbed. seals are centered and all should have been still wet from sterilizing at bottling. I'm gonna try keeping the latest batch sideways while they carb and see if that helps.

    flip tops and flat beers

ok, so popped open a flip top of wheat beer that I was using for longer aging and was greeted with not carbs. Looking around the internets I've seen that other's have had this problem as well. Question, if I store the bottles upsidedown or on their side, will it help ensure a good enough seal...

Test your gut feel: Reculturing 1+ year old WLP400 slant. Will it live?

A or C. Given refrigeration, I'm going to say A.

    IPA brewing log

Well, the hops were a done deal by the time I read this so we'll have to just wait and see how it goes. Order was decided on smell. I very much liked the aroma of the chinook and figured the shorter boil would hopefully see more of that through. Let me know if that is roughly how it works...

    IPA brewing log

Ok, so I figured I'd write up this brew and see how it goes. What I've got: ~1 lb crystal malt steeped for ~30 min 3 lbs light DME 3 lbs golden LME 1 oz cascade hops 60 min boil 1 oz cascade hops 40 min boil 1 oz chinook hops 20 min boil 1 oz chinook hops 2 min boil I will be...

    Oatmeal Stout... with raisins?

you will likely get wine flavors with it. Raisins are generally used to make certain strange types of wines. If you want a cookie flavor you may want to add some lactose to keep some sweetness to it. Don't know what you'd want for type. You will want to chop them before tossing them in though...

    Wheat Beer taste question

Not always. if the proper esters form you can get a variety of flavors commonly associated with other foods. I'd have to look up the specific esters associated with coriander and do some other research to see how they might be arrived at in the fermentation process.

    Oatmeal stout questions

I've read that you want quick or instant oats. If you are using them as a specialty grain in an extract recipe it shouldn't matter too much though. you want to have them in for the boil for multiple reasons. One, oats can harbor types of fungus that could compromise your brew and even poison...

    Wheat Beer taste question

This is why I need to write down what I brew. No additives in mine and had the lemony taste (which I like) yeast was nothing special, want to say nottingham? chinook hops I believe

    First scotch ale going slow

well, it's going now so whatever it is it's gotten passed. I didn't aerate particularly well. Maybe that's it.

    First scotch ale going slow

Ok, I'm doing my strongest brew thus far and it's going rather slow. air lock is bubbling but only every 15-29 seconds as opposed to previous brews which would agressively bubble for at least a day or two. Is this just a function of being stressed by higher sugar concentration or is there...

Will this work as a kegerator?/available sizes of kegs

I think I'll just keep it as a beer fridge for now and pick up a chest freezer to convert later.

Will this work as a kegerator?/available sizes of kegs

I'm conservative on the 8 inch depth and could trim out the shelves on the door to get some more room I measured just to where the shelf stops so that's just a minimum. I'm wondering if I could kiddy corner a 3 gal in the back on the step up with a 5 gal in front. I take it no one has seen any...
