    Vanilla porter

I use Cooper's carb tabs, and I usually have good carbonation within a week. How big were th bottles, and how many tabs did you use? I use one tab for a 12oz, 2 for a 650mL, and three for a 1L swingtop.

Goat's Scrotum from Joy of Homebrewing

I think that I'm going to attempt Papazian's Goat's Scrotum from The Complete Joy of Homebrewing. Anyone brewed it before? Any tips? I'm thinking about using ginger, licorice and molasses.

Mr. Beer kit came out sour. . .

Hahaha, wouldn't that be wonderful :mug:

    Empty beer bottles?

The problem is that in Vancouver, prices for anything but local beer are outrageous (6-pack of coors light could run you $10). I've asked several local stores, but recycling is a really big deal here, so they all say no. I guess I could just bite the bullet and buy some, I saw some on...

Mr. Beer kit came out sour. . .

I used fresh ginger steeped in boiling water. I left it in there for 8 days, and it came out clear, so I bottled. The fermenter isn't open, it just has two small ventilation holes under the lid. It's probably just young. I'll wait another week and then give it a taste, although I'm going to...

    Empty beer bottles?

I wish I still lived in the States, especially a place like Portland that produces so much good inexpensive beer :)

Mr. Beer kit came out sour. . .

I made my first brew from a Mr. Beer it (I have two other beers fermenting now), and it was the west coast pale ale. I added ginger to it to spice it up. It actually came out a little sour, but as I like sour beer, I enjoy the taste. Any idea why it would come out sour?

    Empty beer bottles?

Mista Sparkle: That's a great idea, I'll see if there's a club in my area. vitae drinker: No, I haven't. I have a friend in a frat, so I'll ask him, but I've never seen someone drinking pop-tops at a frat party :/

    Empty beer bottles?

You see, I've been drinking a lot more beer than usual to catch up, but since I'm in Canada, beer is pretty expensive (and I'm in college, which limits my funding). I've called all my local liquor stores, and they act like I'm crazy when I ask if I can buy their empties. I figured that the...

    Empty beer bottles?

Does anyone know where to get empty beer bottles when you're first starting out? I've saved all of my empties from last semester, but I only have about 6 gallons of bottle space (between all the different bottle sizes), and about 2 gallons of those are filled and conditioning. Help, I don't...

No foam 24 hrs after pitching, strong smell

Took a hydrometer reading, and it's dropped 0.02 already. Looks like it's going well, I guess. Thanks for all the help :D

No foam 24 hrs after pitching, strong smell

Wow, thanks for all the info, guys :) I'll take a hydrometer reading tonight and check it our.

No foam 24 hrs after pitching, strong smell

Thanks for the advice :) I think that the lid isn't absolutely airtight (at least, it doesn't seem to be). Would it be a problem for me to transfer to secondary after about 3 days if I'm worried about contamination?

No foam 24 hrs after pitching, strong smell

Haha, I'm sure that everyone worries this much during their first fermentation. The reason I'm asking is that I bought an RJ Spagnols kit from the grocery store for my equipment. The secondary (carboy BB) has a stopper and airlock, but the primary just has a plastic lid, no airlock. Will this...

No foam 24 hrs after pitching, strong smell

Hi, this is my first attempt at a 5gal kit. I brewed a Black Rock IPA HME kit and added hops during boiling. My wort had a nice foam going about 12 hours after going in the fermenter and was developing kraeusen, but after 24 hours, has no foam whatsoever and has a very strong smell (it stings...

What is everyone's favorite style of beer to drink?

I'm currently really digging sours (brown sour ale, weiss, etc.), but my favorite all time is probably IPA.

    Hello from Vancouver, BC

I still have my Mr. Beer kit, so I put together a Cooper's Bitter HME kit with the Willamette and Cascade hop pellets left over from my IPA. Here's hoping that it will turn out well!

    Hello from Vancouver, BC

Lol, actually, I'm an American enjoying your beautiful homeland. But, as people have been presuming that I'm Canadian for years, I'll take the complement. Thanks for your beautiful scenery and wonderful hop supplies :)

    Hello from Vancouver, BC

I'm actually at UBC, so close enough to the city. I go to Dan's Homebrew Shop, because it's basically the only place in Vancouver to get decent ingredients.

    Hello from Vancouver, BC

Hi, all. I started brewing after my friends showed me their setup. I got a Mr. Beer kit for christmas, but bought a real kit right after my first batch (it wasn't very exciting). I'm brewing an IPA dry hopped with Cascade (I was hoping to recreated that citrusy scent of Sierra Nevada Pale...
