    Riptide Pump, filtering

Hello all, I’ve been using the Riptide pump for the past two years, and only had to replace the impeller once... Blichmann sent me a free replacement, quickly and with no problem. I don’t circulate while boiling but I do whirlpool hops. Circulation goes through the Riptide, through the...

    Cosmic Grapefruit

Yesterday’s brew, which I’ve named Cosmic Grapefruit. 9lbs Maris Otter 1 lb Victory 1 lb Munich 8 oz carapils 10 oz flaked oats 1 oz Galena (60min) 1 oz Citra (12min) 1 oz Fuggle (7min) 1 oz grapefruit peel (5 min) 2 oz Amarillo (steeped 15 min at 185 deg)

    Grainfather Conical cooling hose size?

Hello all. I was just looking at the Grainfather conical (GF30), and have a few questions I cannot find answers to. I currently have an SS Brewtech 7-gallon Chronical, which has been great. However, the FTSs cooling, using the coils under the lid, becomes a hassle to clean. The Grainfather...

    SaniClean and Copper

I should have run plain water through after the Saniclean, then, and blown some air through afterward. I can run boiling water through it, would that take care of anything I might have done inside, like oxidation or worse?

    SaniClean and Copper

Hello again, group. I just setup my new copper counterflow chiller, and first did a quick clean. Then I pumped SaniClean through it for ten minutes. Afterward, I’m feeling kinda paranoid about the acid SaniClean reacting with the copper, and potentially causing oxidation or verdigris. The...

Brewers Edge Mash & Boil with pump

I’ve brewed with the M&B for a little over a year and a half now, and have had good experiences. I bought the one without a pump, but use my Blichmann Riptide. I have also wanted to replace the ball valve with a butterfly, but haven’t made that change yet. I’d like to hear if anyone has done so...

Inline Oxygen Kit vs Oxygen Wand

Jumping on this one, because I’m about to switch from aeration to oxygenation. I have a Brewtech Chronical, and could do inline, but I really like the simplicity of the wand. Just dip it in my kettle at flameout, while whirlpooling through my counterchiller, then moving it on over to the...

    FTSs extensions

This is something I had considered at one point, and then forgot about it. However, I’m glad of this reminder! Gonna take that into consideration now.

    FTSs extensions

Yeah, the FTSs is great. I have a small, old ice chest I use as a reservoir, with the pump down in it. It pumps from the reservoir through an Active Aqua 1/10 HP aquarium chiller, then through the under-lid coils, then back into the reservoir. The aquarium chiller must always have water going...

    FTSs extensions

Hey there! I probably should have followed up on this thread. I bought the extensions, and they work great for me. As you said, they cause the sidewall thermowell to be very close to the coils, but I also have a Tilt hydrometer. It’s sending data to a Raspberry pi that I keep on my brew stand...

Blichmann QuickCarb (New from HomebrewCon 2016)

Well it took awhile, but I finally read the whole thread. I’m looking to make a DIY, or maybe just buy the Blichmann since I do have a gift card to use. However, I use pin lock posts. No problem replacing the disconnects, I do that with many of these gadgets. However, since there is no pressure...

    Mash Re-circulation Bulkhead options

Jumping in on this two-year-old thread, because I just ordered the Hangover, with the thermowell attachment and “Trop Stop.” Can’t wait to set it up and give ‘er a go! If it goes well, I’m going to buy the whirlpool arm attachment, too, but I’ll start just by connecting some 1/2” tubing to hang...

False bottom or filter for Mash and Boil?

    It’s a possibility, for sure.

False bottom or filter for Mash and Boil?

If the pump doesn’t really need contact with boiling liquid for 15 minutes, I guess the same holds true for the immersion chiller. I’ve been in the habit of placing my 1/2” x 50’ IC in the boil with 15 mins left, and turning on the Riptide to sanitize. To keep from dropping temp, I’ve warmed...

False bottom or filter for Mash and Boil?

Lots of good info here, but to be clear my recirculating at the end was not done to whirlpool. Just doing so to sanitize the pump and tubing. I see now that it may not be necessary to do so, just something that many have suggested doing. Looks like I can achieve that result with just a few...

False bottom or filter for Mash and Boil?

Hello everyone. I hope you’re brewing, fermenting, kegging, or drinking something great right now! I brew using a Mash and Boil, and use a Blichmann Riptide to circulate and transfer. I’ve been having a problem with hop particles in the pump, and somehow even managed to break a tiny piece off...

    Co2 leaking around keg lid

Great suggestions, all over the place. Thanks, good people! I do apply keg lube, but never too much, and I always do a hot wash and rinse after every keg even if the same beer is going in after. I also crank the psi to 45-50 to set the lid BUT I’ve been doing that after locking it. I’ll try...

    Co2 leaking around keg lid

I should also point out a couple of things. Although this keg was used when I got it, I of course refitted it with all new o-rings. Also, when I spray the StarSan it bubbles on both long sides of the oval lid. So, I can’t just try to set the lid more to one side, if you know what I mean.

    Co2 leaking around keg lid

Hello all. Looking for advice on a keg leaking gas. This keg has had beer in it before, 3 times I think, and I’ve not had this problem. Filled it with my latest brew and set up the Co2 to carb. I was in a hurry and didn’t check right away for leaks. The next day, I tried to pour some soda water...

    Wort Chiller Stops Boil

At the suggestion of some, I’ll likely put my chiller in at the start of the boil, and wait for it to come back to boiling before I add bittering hops. Might lose some hop utilization, since my coils go up nearly to the surface of the liquid, and would form somewhat of a wall. Still better...
