Tried the Corn starch/alcohol test, no obvious result

Leave it on longer to make the warm spots. But on my Sanyo you could even tell just with your hand where the line ran because it was warmer than the rest of the top of the fridge. Make sure you set the fridge to it's coldest setting and then run it for a bit. It could be that they don't run...

Who brews all they drink? Who still buys beer?

I'm about 50/50, I drink in bars a couple times a week so then I can't drink homebrew. When I'm home I usually pick up a 6 pack a week of something new I want to try. Been drinking a lot of Schells Snowstorm now that the 09 is out and it is pretty cheap compared to other Micros.

    off flavor in my IPA

It isn't over carbed is it? Maybe it has a carbonic acid taste that you are picking up. Although people usually describe that as more metallic I believe.

    why wont it clear?

How long have you chilled them in the fridge? Put a few in there for 2 weeks at least and that can often make a lot of yeast and chill haze fall out of solution.

Questions now that I've tasted my first batch

How long have they been in the bottles? If not for at least 3 weeks at around 70 degrees some might not be fully carbed. Let them carb up then refrigerate for at least a week and see if you get more even carbination. I'll bet you will be fine in a little time.

    PVC Tower Cooling Solution

Labels that make you pass up a beer

I like goofy labels like http://tommyknocker.com/ourBeer.html There aren't too many labels that I really dislike. Usually simple is better though like New Glarus' simple easy to remove labels http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/Beers.cfm?BeerCategoryID=1

Old Milwaukee Light is a Punchline/Wins GOLD?

All-Grain Brewing with Extract Brewing Equipment (pics)

That's too bad. I have heard of a lot of people having problems with the flat/glass top electric stoves. Seems a pain if you don't have perfectly flat bottomed pots too.

All-Grain Brewing with Extract Brewing Equipment (pics)

Sorry to be a little :off: but if your electric stove will fit a canning element you could try that to improve your boil. I purchased one for my stove off ebay for 22.58 shipped. I also only have a 20qt kettle but I was able to get that to boil about an inch from the top without too much...

    Do homebrewers smoke?

I smoke a cigar once every few months but that is it.

Emergency! Forgot late malt addition! Can it be saved?

People will sometimes agitate if they have a stuck fermentation at like 1.02 by just rocking the bucket/carboy to get the yeast in suspension again. But if you have ever watched a healthy fermentation in a carboy once they are going they will stir it up quite a bit anyway. No need to...

first AG= how many mistakes did I make?

I think you will be fine. With 1.06 you will get a decent amount of alcohol, you could have topped off but no problem in leaving it the way you did either. I'm sure you will have pretty tasty beer in a few weeks.

Paint Strainer Bag in Mash Tun: Good Idea?

I love these 5 gal paint strainer bags. I just do partial mash most of the time and they are the perfect size for my smallish 20qt pot. So much easier then using the muslin way too small bags that Midwest usually gives me for their grains. It has made it a lot easier to partial mash on the...
