    Replacing Nugget with Centennial

Got it, so bitter hops don't transfer flavor. Stick with Nugget on the front end and flavor with centennial, thanks for the info. American pale ale with a centennial flavor and a little extra hops kick coming up.

    Replacing Nugget with Centennial

My first recipe adjustment. I want to swap bittering hops to gain the citrus and drop the spice. If I switch the Nugget as a flame out hops could I get the spice aroma and then surprise with a citrus flavor or is this a bad move?

Beer has a distinct alcohol taste

The topic made me laugh. Noob here, but the main 3 things I can think of is your starting water, your ferment temps, or your conditioning times.

Followed Brewers Best Instructions , what the **** is this **** ?

I am brewing my 2nd and 3rd batch of beer right now. My Noob to Noob advice - Patience is your friend when brewing, when in doubt wait another week. I wanted to get a very clear beer and racked my 1st batch twice (my noob mistake among many) but I found that the beer tasted nothing like the...

    Fernenting ale in mini fridge

Freecycle is a yahoo group that people put used stuff on. LOTS of fridges. And it's all free.

    Fernenting ale in mini fridge

For temp control I use set a 3 gallon carboy in a 6.5 gallon brew bucket and fill to the neck of the carboy with cold tap water. Replace the water or add ice daily. I don't know if the 5 gallon carboy will fit though...

    Removing stubborn label adhesive

Soapy warm water over night and a wallpaper scorcher. Well wall paper scorcher only on those shiny water resistant ones. Next day a plastic scrubber and its all paper mash.

Is this pot thick enough for brewing?

If using a propane burner you can always put a piece of steel down (not to thick) to take the direct burn and put your pot on top of it. It will take a little longer to initially heat up, but that direct heat won't burn through your .8mm.

Went to the brew store today...

That's why I started with the wheat beer for the Mrs. If I can get her involved its game on for expansion.

Went to the brew store today...

Picked up a 3 gallon pilsner for the light fans, a 5 gallon Pale ale for me, and a 3 gallon wheat beer for the Mrs. Starting the wheat beer tonight. Here comes the pipeline.

Checking my math on table sugar carbing.

I don't know the specifics. My LHBS owner gave me quick an easy per my request. extract boil 60 mins, add first hops bag 60 mins, 2nd at 15 mins left. I told him not malty and yes on hoppy per my taste. Smells bitter, and citrus floral, tastes hoppy. I think I did a pale ale.

    First batch bottled

Thanks everyone. I trusted my LHBS on the formula based on what I told him my preferences in beer are and I think he set me up good. Time to look for my second batch recipe. Empty Carboys look so... empty.

Not that advanced yet, so medium bubbly :)

    First batch bottled

Just finished my first batch of beer and bottled it. I'm excited. 3 weeks to carb and yum yum. I can't wait. Upping from 3 gallons to 6 for the next run. Getting a 5 gallon kettle this week.

Checking my math on table sugar carbing.

Negative on the kitchen scale... I was thinking a rounded 1/4 cup or a slightly shorted 1/3 cup. Impatience is my enemy here.

    Headaches

I get an instant headache after getting half way through a bud light platinum. I don't have gluten issues, so I assume its something else in the formula and stay away. Trial and error would be my suggestion. This is more to wine, but a few of my wino friends can't handle tannins. Maybe...

Checking my math on table sugar carbing.

3 gallons requires 5/16 cup regular sugar? My brew shop was closed this weekend and I cod t get corn sugar.

    Oops again...

Bought some cherry cider to use in secondary fermentation and while checking SG forgot to sanitize my hydrometer while checking gravity on my brew.... boogers. Came home the next day and the cherry cider bottle was about to explode. I released some co2 added an airlock and M curious how it...

    How bad?

I am past final week fermenting and will be bottling this weekend. Also, that was too much trub... Darn autocorrect.

    How bad?

I did a 3 gallon batch and probably filled to 2 and 2.25 gallons. I am going to rack to a new carboy to get off the 2" of stuff in the bottom. I am planning on adding the additional water after racking. What are my major effects? Missed FG because of a higher OG? Bad flavors due to too much...
