    Dos Equis?

You're welcome. You might check out this thread too about a Modelo Especial clone https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f14/modelo-especial-clone-292266/ I posted one of my recipes that came out similar to it. Maybe a little richer and more tasty than the original. Oh and thanks mods. Appreciate...

Water PH and adjustment question for belgian blond

You're very welcome and good luck with your brew.

Water PH and adjustment question for belgian blond

Skip the 5.2 stabilizer. It will add more sodium to your beer than you want and won't help mash pH at all. If you're brewing extract, you don't really need to adjust that water. If you're brewing all grain, I plugged your numbers into EZ water calculator (which you should D/L) with...

    Dos Equis?

Ken Lenard has probably brewed more Mexican Lagers than anyone I know. I've brewed one of his recipes and it was very good. Check out The Cabana Lager recipe for your XX clone or the Hacienda Lager or Bordertown Lager for an Amber Clone. http://www.freewebs.com/kenlenard/recipes.htm

Dealing with Two lagers at different stages....one chamber

I'd take a sample of the one lagering and taste it. If it was clear and tasted good, I'd bottle or keg it. If not, put it in a tub full of water in the garage. The water will hold the median of the temp swing and you can add a few frozen water bottles to keep it in the mid-30s.

What came in the mail for you today?

The wife questioned me about what arrived from Amazon today "Honey, why are you ordering sanitary lubricant?" Keg Lube.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

FTFY to make it a true statement. Unbelievable that many people think it's a drinkable product.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Every good brewer knows you need to keep a hop de-aeration stone in the boil. Geez!:smack:

    pH for dummies?

During boiling the pH drops by about 0.1 – 0.2 pH units from 5.3 – 5.5 pH to about 5.2 – 5.3 pH. This may be due to the addition of bitter acids from the hops, formation of acidic Maillard products, precipitation of alkaline phosphates or the reaction of polypeptides with...

Why Wing Cappers Won't Always Work

I've been bottling for 5 years and have seen a bunch of threads on wing vs. bench capper and people asking why their wing capper won't cap some bottles I bottled a bunch of beer in Corona bottles when I first started out and then found that my Red plastic capper wouldn't cap them. They crimped...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

I love all beer that's brewed well and without flaws and even enjoy an occasional Bud or Coors. Just brewed a rice lager similar to Coors Banquet. That being said, there's something wrong with the way Yeungling handles their yeast. All of their beers taste like banana to me. I toured the...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

My convos with people about sharing my beer usually go exactly opposite of yours Him: What kind of beer do you make? Me: All styles from the lightest lager to the blackest stout and everything in between Him: I'd like to try some Me: If you only drink Miller Lite and think that's the best...

    Modelo Especial Clone?

You're welcome. I like to mix it in with my dry grain after crushing. If you dump it into the mash, it will blob up like a marshmallow. It dissolves quickly but can give you a scare if it does that. Mixed with the grains, you notice nothing.

    Modelo Especial Clone?

Toivo's recipe wasn't mine and is actually for Negra--this is for Especial. I think I linked to it at some other time. Here's mine: 5.5Gal Batch (I scaled this down from my normal 7 gal batch size) 4lb 8oz. Breiss 2-Row 2lb Vienna 1lb "Argo" corn starch or flaked corn 4oz belgian...

KDF copper/zinc Water Filters vs. Ions

Thanks man, I really appreciate your input. I want to get a handle on this sulfur PITA. I have a failed backwash/chemical injection sulfur filter that was broken more than functional. If I can get a year out of 2--$120/ea filters and get rid of this odor, I'll be happy. I also plan to...

KDF copper/zinc Water Filters vs. Ions

Do KDFs need the carbon filter to improve taste and decrease odor? I was hoping to get away with just 2--20" KDF85s running in parallel without anything else.

KDF copper/zinc Water Filters vs. Ions

Do you use KDF to decrease sulfur odor? If so, how effective is it in that role and how long do your filters last?
