    MM-3 Jamming Up

I went home at lunch and took Derek's advice about blowing air to clean out any residues (this is before I saw your latest post BrewBeemer). I then set the gap to 0.045 started the mill and added some grain. The 3rd roller took a second to engage and then began to shoot out the ground barley...

    MM-3 Jamming Up

BrewBeemer, My motor is a capicitor start motor and I expected it to have enough power to start the mill with grain in the hopper. It seems to work fine by prestarting the mill and then adding grain at 0.038 or below. When will you get your mill up and running I am anxious to hear how it...

    MM-3 Jamming Up

I just received by MM3-2.0 mill last week and finally got it all assembled with a 12 inch pulley and 1/3 HP 1725 rpm motor (1.5 inch pulley on the motor). I have a thin plexiglass window on the "out" side of the mill. I can observe unmilled grain setting on top and not engaging the 3rd roller...

    Boulder, Co bars

There are several bars around the Pearl Street and Walnut street area (the Foundy, the Original Old Chicago, the Walrus). I would take advantage of the local beers while in Boulder. Boulder Beer has a tap house off of wilderness (near Valmont and Foothills). Avery has a tap house off of East...

    5.2 ph stabilizer

For a 5 gallon batch just add 1 tablespoon to the mash water. It readily dissolves and since it is a buffer it achieves pH 5.2. This stuff is great and has become a staple in my routine. Before I used it my efficiency was inconsistent. With it I consistently achieve above 80% (Corona mill).

Frustrated with all grain...going back to extract

I was getting low original gravities until I bought a new hydrometer. Sometimes the paper inside can slide down. This was very frustrating until I figured it out. I would also use the pH 5.2 buffer. I use a Corona mill and always get in 80s. Good luck

    Dry yeast Vs Liquid

The slants require very little dry malt extract and some plain gelatin packets. The corresponding starters require much more malt extract. I love the US-05 it is extremely convenient and fast. The 1056/WLP001 yeast were my default yeast anyway. I only recently became aware of the Safale...

    Dry yeast Vs Liquid

I have recently noticed that dry yeast is going up in price. A few months ago I was paying $1.60 and recently it is over $2.50. While this is much cheaper than liquid it is a drastic increase. I can make 10 slants and batch from a vial or bag of yeast. This significantly lowers the price per...

Screw Top Pails: Good for brewing?

If the resins are FDA approved I would be shocked if it is not food grade. I think the FDA has a higher bar for drug products than food products. FWIW

    Magic Chef 7.2CF - Home Depot - $161

I just called a local Home Depot and spoke with a manager and he claimed "we do not compete with the the Home Depot website and the price is $219 (10% off of $219 due to sale). If you click on the offer it says you buy them at the store. What BS. I think the Sams 7.0 Cubic feet model is still...

Will 6 cornies fit in this one?

Longmont is in Colorado just North of Boulder/Denver. I meant to reply to GHart's post since he found several freezers in the Denver Metro area. Thanks for the info. I will let my fingers do the walking.

Will 6 cornies fit in this one?

Gonzo, I live in Longmont and was wondering if you could let me know what HD stores had these Magic Chef Freezers. I looked online and the Home Depot website still has them at $269 (no close out mentioned). Thanks. I hope I am not too late. Labrat

Fridge or Freezer for Fermentation Temp Control

What size of freezer did you get? I have been looking around and it seems that the minimum to fit two buckets is the 7 cubic feet models. This would also be a tight fit. Sam's club sells one for $175 and there are several on Craigs list (not any great deals). I am hoping that a 9 cubic feet...

    Weldless fitting leaking

Is the hole in the keg a lot larger than the 1/2 inch NPT? Does the brass nut that came with your bulkhead have a cut away section shown in this thread. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=63014 This cut away section forces the o-ring to compress instead of distorting. Some lock...

    Machined Keggle conv locknut here

I ordered what I thought was these pieces from McMaster Carr and the ones I recieved were flat sided. I did have some luck with the trusty dremel and grinding a groove that holds the O-rings in place. More Beer sells the stainless versions which work great.

Need help with some parts for keggle

It may be easier to just get both the stainless compression fitting and the tube from More beer. This way you know they will work together. I think if you spend over 70 bucks you get free shipiing. This always convinces me to keep filling the shopping cart. The depth that the tube reaches...

Need help with some parts for keggle

The silicone o-rings can be purchased online from McMaster-Carr (a bag of 50 I think). My home depot carries a 1/2 inch male NPT to 5/8 tubing compression fitting that is made of brass. If you are concerned about using brass you can get a stainless 1/2 inch male NPT to 1/2 OD compression...
