    Bottling - Vinator (Assembly)

I just got mine and took 2 needlenose pliers to the spring and bent it out a bit to make the coil a bit wider, fits around the red base on the inside perfectly

    Lost Power

Do you have any other sources of heat? Outdoor propane burner or maybe even a charcoal grill? Anything just to keep the temp up, once you had it to a boil it won't take much to keep it up at boiling temps

Any issues with caps that look like this?

That must be it, I was pulling down pretty much all the way when seating the caps, guess i'll play with it and give a bit less pressure to see if there's a happy median. Thanks for the advice

    Infection or something else?

Perfect, thanks for the advice y'all!

    Infection or something else?

I have a set of filters (600 um, 400 um, and 200 um) that I use when transferring from brewkettle to fermenter. That tends to get most of it out for that step, but since I have some extra in this batch what would you suggest when I bottle? If it's still floating on top should I just siphon...

    Infection or something else?

Harder to see the details but this is the same pic sans flash

    Infection or something else?

I'm pretty sure that the white color around the edge is just from the flash, without the pic it doesn't have that color. All just the brownish/green color

Any issues with caps that look like this?

Yep, wing capper. Small center post when the capper is open shows up in the picture

    Infection or something else?

So a week ago I took a specific gravity reading on one batch while I was bottling one. Had no issues with sanitization that I know of, it hasn't been an issue this far. I went to check another reading today to see if this batch was ready to bottle and I came across this. Last week when I...

Any issues with caps that look like this?

I noticed after capping that the caps themselves had a small circular dent in the center from the capper. Pulling the handles down to cap the bottles was simple but I notice a bit of resistance as I lift the handles and take the capper off the bottles. Seems like this dent is from the center of...

Looking for a clone recipe for sam adams pumpkin ale

Forgot to add, an extract recipe would be the ideal choice as I haven't gone to mash yet, but I guess this could be the time to give it a try

Looking for a clone recipe for sam adams pumpkin ale

I posted this in the extract brewing page but I think this would be the better post location option. I'll copy the post made in the other thread I am a big fan of most of the Sam Adams brews, the seasonals in particular. Last year the pumpkin spice ale they had in the fall was fantastic. I...

New brewer question- 1 gallon with 5 gallon equipment

I ran into the same choice when I started looking at small batch recipes for a trial run but only having 5 gal sized equipment. Decided to buy a 2 gal bucket and 1 gal carboy for those small batches. Even if I don't use them that often I have a 2 gal bucket that works great for storing...

    Why so many twist offs....

I go with any variety of Sam Adams, once done with the beer just rinse the bottle out. They sit there on the counter next to the sink until I get enough to put in an oxyclean free bath overnight to get the label off then bam, bottle ready to go

Suggestions for a pumpkin ale for the fall

I am a big fan of most of the Sam Adams brews, the seasonals in particular. Last year the pumpkin spice ale they had in the fall was fantastic. I couldn't keep any at the house for any extended period of time so I'm looking for something that I can make here at home. Has anyone tried that...

Question about steeping grains and brew color

Not a clue. The kit didn't identify the type of grains. Just called them "steeping grains". The temp was probably the issue. I didn't let it get close to a boil when they were in, but they probably got over 160

Question about steeping grains and brew color

I know the smaller batches tend to be darker due to the higher percentage of the wort in contact with the burner surface but the dark color seemed to already be there once I was done with the steeping before the boil began. I started the steeping once the water hit around 100 F and just did 10...

Question about steeping grains and brew color

Both batches were one gal extract types. In not at home so I'd have to look up the specifics on the recipe but the only thing that was added after the beginning of the boil was a second hop addition as well as 2 oz of honey
