How long does it take to finish a 5 gallon corny?

4-6 weeks depending how much I share / give away. I'm not that heavy of a drinker and usually stop after I'm feeling pretty good. As I've gotten older (and tired of hangovers) I drink more for flavor than getting wasted lol. Even more so if the surf is good, I'll forgo the extra drink if it...

    Ok its official

Bottle conditioning is definitely fast here with the room temps being in the high 70s / low 80's. Usually full carb in 3-5 days depending on the ABV :) Living here basically there's no sense in kegging if your motivation is getting faster grain-to-glass, you basically save a day or 2 tops. If...

After doing 25+ 2.5 gal batches, I finally bottled my first 5 gal batch, and I have to say, now I'm really understanding where people are coming from with this hate for bottling haha. Not saying I hate it, but if I had to do anything bigger than a 5g batch (like upping to 10), I would definitely...

    Just dawned on me....

Since I was a total newbie I've never had a bad batch of beer. I've heard many friends say they tried homebrew, or tried brewing and it never turned out good. One of the first purchases I made was a chest freezer and temp controller, I'm thinking that had a huge thing to do with it. Those people...

Cane Sugar v. Corn Sugar v. Table Sugar

I've only ever used organic cane sugar but it's worked well since the beginning so i stuck with it. 12 oz bottles 1/2 tsp, bombers i use 1

    Home Brewing = Saving Money?

Haha yeah I know :D Some forums hate you for making a new thread before using the search function so I kinda grew accustomed to reviving a new thread over making a new one. That's a sweet tap setup you got there, you got some lucky friends if they can come over and drink all the time for free lol.

Bad or good idea to make a 'collar' for a fermentation chamber?

Ok cool thanks! I'll give that link a look. I was thinking about the lifting part, but that should be no problem for me if I can lift something by the handles. I'd probably pick up brew buckets since lifting something glass at that height would make me nervous.

When should I move batch to secondary?

My secondary is a 12 oz or 22 oz bottle

    SS Brewtech's Mill

It definitely looks cool. SS Brewtech has released a lot of quality equipment, so they would be a company I wouldn't hesitate to buy something even if it hasn't had many reviews on the web yet. $799 though, yeah I don't brew at a high enough volume to be spending that kind of dough on a grain...

    Gelatin and bottling

Ok, good luck! If you think about it though, putting bottles in the fridge basically is cold crashing :) Yeast will settle to the bottom, you'll really see a noticeable difference in clarity at about a week.

    Fermentation Time

Depending on the yeast, but usually ales are done around day 7-10. Usually I leave it in for 13-14 if I want to be sure. It might be a good idea to invest in a refractometer, you could get those for cheap on amazon and you don't use as big of a sample as the hydrometer. Might not be as spot-on...

    Gelatin and bottling

I don't even bother with cold crashing, put the bottles in the fridge for 4-5 days and a careful pour, and they come out clear.

For $660? Jesus man, I'd buy a couple 5 gallon kegs, co2 and a chest freezer to convert to a kegerator for that price :D I will say that thing does look cool though.

Growing up in Hawaii it's hard to avoid the ocean lol. Thankfully Hawaii isn't known for shark attacks very often, different story in california or especially florida!

lol, I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. I don't particularly enjoy the bottling process, but after it's done I like looking at how much filled bottles of beer that I have :)
