    No Chill BIAB

I went from extract (2 batches) to all grain no-chill and have never had a second thought about changing. I adjust the time for hop additions, tap off 1-2 quarts to make a natural wort starter and avoid the additional cost of DME and the time cost/effort cost of making it on the stove. I...

    Hop Quality

My hop delivery took 7 days via from a vendor not-yet-to-be-named, via USPS "2-Day priority mail". What are the potential quality issues if the hops were perhaps sitting in a hot delivery truck over some or much of that time? The vendor and USPS showed they were shipped on June 3, and I received...

    Help lowering the ABV

Looking at all comments, I came up with the recipe below. Original mash schedule was step mash 144 for 45 min., then 158 for 15 minutes. If I raise mash temps, how much? Comments? Thoughts? 3 lbs. Pilsner malt 1.25 lbs. pale ale malt 1.4 lbs. Munich malt 1.4 lbs. dark Munich malt .7 lb...

    Help lowering the ABV

Overall, I agree. But I thought it was worth getting some opinions I believe i've read you can cut back base malts to reduce ABV, but not specialty malts. However, I would think that if you only cut (a large amount of) base malts it would also totally mess up the flavor profile. So...just...

    Help lowering the ABV

I'd like to cut the ABV to 5% or less if possible in the following recipe (Gordon Strong's Belgian Dark Strong Ale) while maintaining the flavor and complexity as much as possible. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!:mug: 7 lbs. (3.2 kg) Pilsner malt 3 lbs. (1.4...

BIAB Disadvantages to go with the Advantages thread.

Absolutely the biggest plus is allowing people to try AG without first buying a mash tun, etc. etc.. You can get a 5-gallon paint strainer bag for a couple bucks at a big box store, and you're ready to try AG via BIAB. Then you can either stay with BIAB, or decide to dive into AG with all the...

    Robust porter recipe thoughts?

I do a lot of clones, but very few original recipes, so just looking for some feedback. I want to make a fairly low ABV, but still flavorful robust porter. Any thoughts on this recipe? Mild malt 6.0lbs. Munich malt 1.0 lb. Amber 1.0 lb. Carared...

    More quick brewing

Have you looked into "no-chill" brewing? Basically, it's tapping your hot wort directly into a food-grade container, capping it, and letting it sit for 24 hours (or more if you want), and then pitching your yeast once it's cooled down naturally. No messing with any cooling equipment or related...
