Low ABV porter or stout recipes?

Does anyone have any good low or even very low ABV stout or porter recipes that are still decently full-bodied? Looking for sub-4% for sure, ideally even a sub-3%. I'd much rather drink several lower ABV beers than just one or two higher ABV. brews.

    Save time on mash step

One (two?) time savers I utilize regularly are no-chill brewing and natural wort starters. In no-chill, you tap your hot wort directly from you BK into a food grade plastic container with a solid seal (US Plastics is a good online source). No air equals no chance for bugs to grow. The next day...

Set-up, Brew and Cleanup time-start to finish

How long is a brew day with an automated system? I know there are many OTHER reasons to use such a system, but I'm curious as to the length of a brew day. :mug:

    Lost recipe help

I've used it in a stout before, and it was okay. The kveiks can be used at those temps because they don't throw all the off-flavors normally associated with high temps, but the s-33 is a good idea. Thanks!

    Lost recipe help

After almost three weeks of not brewing due to the cold (I brew in my unheated garage) I'm ready to go this Tuesday when we're supposed to be up close to 40 degrees. One small problem: I crushed the grain three weeks ago, just before the cold snap hit, and have no idea what the recipe was (or...

    Considering becoming a Brewer

I suggest a combination of 1) read the book and 2) Madscientist's suggestion about brew-in-a-bag. OTOH if your idea of baking a cake is to buy a box of cake mix and add water, then extract brewing is a better option. After one extract batch, I thought "that's it, that's what home-brewing is all...

Aerate before or after pitching yeast?

Your penance is 10 "Hail Marys"... and a beer of your choice.:ban:

    Chicago far west suburbs, anyone?

I'm looking for others for occasional trading of six-packs of mixed homebrew. I'm thinking two each of three different beers. I'm in St. Charles. PM me if interested. :mug:

What I did for beer today

Brewed two batches yesterday, back=to-back. One porter, and one English bitter. Long day, but at least it cut down on some of the cleaning by using the BK a second after just a quick rinse. And only had to haul out all the equipment once, so that's also a plus. I could see doing it again. After...

What do you do with your spent grains?

Some is used for dog treats, I already have a bunch dried and use it in granola. The bulk of it goes to the self-labeled "chicken-lady" in the house behind ours. She gives me 8-10 eggs for each batch of grain I give her. I've actually talked to her about informally trading my spent grain for her...

    The Poet- New Holland Brewery

Thanks, I'll give this a try. I don't remember seeing this one before. I remember those Wilford Bramley commercials, though.

    Small single-serve glass bottles

I use the small coke bottles ( both the older thicker and some of the newer thinner ones they're put out in the last 30 years for special events). As mentioned above, long as you don't leave them in direct light they work fine. I have 120-150 I'd offer for a reasonable price. PM if interested.

    Pre made wort for starters

I do "no-chill" brewing. Just before sealing my hot wort in a food-grade, airtight container to let it cool overnight, I tap off enough wort for a "natural wort" starter. No DME cost, no DME smell. I just chill down that pint-quart amount in the sink with ice cubes to a safe yeast temp, then put...

    The Poet- New Holland Brewery

Does anyone have a recipe for New Holland Brewery's stout,The Poet? I love the beer, but have been unsuccessful in finding a recipe in the past. And attempting to create one is over my ability level at present. Anybody up to developing one? Thanks for any input!

What I did for beer today

Made an amber with Kveik Lutra. Planned on top-cropping the yeast, but most of it had already dropped out after 28 hours. Guess I'll save some of the slurry for next batch and dry some of it for future use. I decided making some kveik-based brews is my best bet to get the pipeline back up to...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you help your daughter "prepare" for college by letting her try the different styles of beer you make so that she is "educated" prior to getting to college. And she later confesses that her first two beers at college were a PBR and a Guiness. She had already developed a preference for dark...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you feel you've let down yourself and SWIMBO when you realize that you waited too long and the pipeline will dry up before the next homebrew is ready to drink. And you feel you HAVE to go out and actually purchase beer to maintain balance in the universe (and peace in the household).

    Spruce tips Kveik ale

I used 11 oz. spruce tips throughout the entire mash, and another 11 oz. at 5 min. It was quite noticeable. My recipe was different though. 65% Pilsener, 11% Vienna, 3% Caramunich, 11% flaked oats, and 10% honey. Cascade .75 oz. @ 60, Saaz .33 at 15 , and Saaz .33 at 5 min. Hornindal kveik. Very...
