    Bottle Capping

Talk about great timing and irony. Just about all of my recent batch was bottled in brown bottles but being that I had a couple extra 22oz Stella bottles hanging around, I used them as well. I decided to have a pale ale last night so I grabbed one of the Stella bottles and guess what... hardly...

    Bottle Capping

I'm interested about knowing more regarding the Stella bottles because I used 3-4 with my last brew. I looked through the link you provided but didn't see anything relating to Stella. What is wrong with Stella bottles?

The Lowdown on Adding Fruit to Brew

I am bottling. Any other thoughts about using jam? I'm not going to use fresh fruit - too darn expensive. If jam isn't good to use, I can buy a bag of organic frozen raspberries (as detailed above) for four bucks after tax. If it doesn't need to be organic, a regular bag would be cheaper...

The Lowdown on Adding Fruit to Brew

Maybe a better option that I just found at Walmart is Wild Oats Marketplace Organic Raspberries. INGREDIENTS: ORGANIC RASPBERRIES This seems like it would be a safer better; however, would this give it more of a tart taste? When using frozen fruit, is there anything you do to give it some...

The Lowdown on Adding Fruit to Brew

Okay, this would probably not work but just wondering... 1. Blackberry Jam (no sugar added but does have splenda). Ingredients: Water, Blackberries, Polydextrose, Maltodextrin, Fruit Pectin, Citric Acid, Locust Bean Gum, Natural Flavor, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Sucralose (Non...

The Lowdown on Adding Fruit to Brew

I've read a ton on this forum regarding adding fruit to beer. Since I've never done a fruit beer, I thought it would be easy enough to search some older threads to find out what to do. Should be easy enough, right? Not so much... I'm now more confused than when I started. I...

    Citrus Light

That sounds good. I would be very interested to hear what you do and how it comes out. I had a lemon flavored beer a long time ago at a beer tasting event in Atlanta (1996). I forget the name of the company - they don't carry it anymore unfortunately. I really liked it but it was hard to...

    Sanitizing bottles the right way

As a new brewer, I'm SO GLAD that I spent a ton of time up front to research equipment that will make my life easier and beer tastier. I decided to spend more initially to help make my experience better. I absolutely LOVE my vinator - makes sanitizing bottles a breeze especially with my 48...

Three Under my Belt but Still...

Well, no, since I didn't know it could be removed. Whoops. I didn't use it with my last batch being that I have a big mouth bubbler with a spigot. However, I did with my latest brew. Oh well... learn and live. Pile this one on all of the other mistakes that I've made so far. :D When I get...

Three Under my Belt but Still...

Brewer's Best gives a range for the SG on their kits. The first kit that I used was a NB kit which had a stated SG of 1.043. I was pretty much on target at 1.044. The last two kits I have been .002 low.

What cup? I have this siphon.

Three Under my Belt but Still...

Ahhh... I actually have one of those clips now that you mention it. It's been sitting quietly in my closet. I completely forgot about it. I cool the wort the old traditional way... throw it in the freezer. Just kidding... I take the 5 gallon batch and make an ice bath using a 20lb bag of...

Forgot to top off wort. Add at priming?

Don't mean to hijack the post but how is the NB Kiwi IPA? I recently bought the kit and it's up on deck.

Forgot to top off wort. Add at priming?

Don't worry about it (his reply that is). I'm on my third batch and I've made a lot of mistakes thus far. It's a learning process... many more mistakes to come I'm sure. I wish I had some advice but I don't other than let us know how it turns out!

Three Under my Belt but Still...

Now that I have three brews under my belt, I feel more comfortable about the process but still have some questions... 1. I was given the advice to use mesh over my auto-siphon to keep the trub from transferring from my primary to bottling buck. I had a good bit due in part to dry hopping in my...

Reading my Hydrometer - too many bubbles!

PERFECT! Thanks, my man. I really appreciate it. My eyes say thanks as well. I will order the kit this evening. :mug:
