    Words and phrases I hate

I'm unsure why this gets under my skin but when people say, "I need to go to the ATM machine." It is an Automatic Teller Machine. A.T.M. The M means machine already. Bothers me for no good reason to no end.

Star San is making me think twice about home brewing

Concerns about bottle breaking are far overblown. It's a very simple and chemical free process. Ha ha ha like most things I guess I have some bad luck. The first time I tried this I had 3 break.

Star San is making me think twice about home brewing

I won't beat you up for your concerns, looks like others have done plenty of that and I won't pile on. But I will give you a few alternatives. You could bake the bottles. This is tim consuming because you have to step up the heat in the oven slowly, and lower it slowly. Not a great option, due...

    Bottling

I soak in hot tap water and oxy clean over night which makes the labels fall off. Then I run them through the dishwasher on the hot cycle, which is hot enough to sanitize the bottles. I let them cool for 30 mins or so right in the dishwasher before I bottle.

Hex nut on shanks keeps loosening - ideas?

I stand corrected. Locktite 425 is safe for plastic fasteners. http://www.henkelna.com/cps/rde/xchg/henkel_us/hs.xsl/product-search-1554.htm?nodeid=8797887234049 This link is the spec sheet.

Hex nut on shanks keeps loosening - ideas?

I was going to suggest locktite, but apparently it eats plastic, so not a good solution. What about a rubber washer between the backing nut and the mounting surface. This would cause friction that would prevent the faucet from rotating and loosening the backing nut.

Learn to Brew Horrible Customer Service

Posting here hits them where it counts, right in the wallet. Bad reviews from other home brewers will drive some business away. Keep posting on here until they contact you back. I have no history with this company but with most until they see a hit in their business they won't change.

    Extra roasty nut brown ale.

Hey so I bottled a nut brown ale 2 weeks ago and just got around to trying it. It has an unbelievably roasty finish when I had one. The recipe was as follows: 7 lbs pale, 2 lbs amber, .5 lbs crystal 60, .25 lbs chocolate @152 for 60 mins. .5 oz nugget @ 60 and .5 oz willamette @ 15, and WLP013...

    What are you reading?

I get beer advocate in the mail, and I love How to brew, by John Palmer. How to brew is a complete instruction for all things brewing. Extreme brewing is a great book of all extract clone recipes written by Sam Calgone of Dogfishhead. I adapt the recipes now to do as AG recipes.

    Cold Crashing temps

I have heard some horror stories on here about doing exactly what your talking about. The problem for the most part is using a glass carboy. The beer will freeze from the top down. When the top inch of the beer is frozen is prevents pressure from the water expanding to release through the...

    Wine finings in beer?

Thank you for clarifying that earlier because I have found other threads about sparkolloid previously posted. It can be used in your secondary fermenter. But I couldn't find a clear answer if it affects bottling?

    Wine finings in beer?

Sorry I forgot to write sparkolloid too. I thought that sparkolloid was the inhibitor and the kmeta and sorbate were finings. I just had them mixed up. So can you use sparkolloid to clarify beer?
