Syracuse, ny - round 7 group grain buy

Works for me. Also, I just added 2 lbs Willamette. Read it's good in dark beers & I'm a fan of those ;). Up to 8 out of 11 on that one.

Syracuse, ny - round 7 group grain buy

Alright, since I upped my grain bag count maybe I should only count on hauling my own then :x. Jeff/racin - I'd be cool dropping one of the bags of 2row I added if you want. In part I was adding them to help fill the order. I was also thinking only 1 bag of 2row with all the other bags I...

Syracuse, ny - round 7 group grain buy

So I just saw the PM for this. Based on earlier in the thread it sounded like my hatch back can't fit too many bags and I'm up to 8 myself. I think some other guys had trucks who offered they could pick up. I don't mind cramming some extra bags in my car but I'm not sure if I could fit 13...

That's always stressful :(. Especially if your place of employment might target whole divisions regardless of personal performance.

Will steamer pots fit a heating element?

I have this guy: Amazon I have an element installed in it. The locknut on the inside butts up against the indentation so it can't spin (makes screwing the element in easier since I don't need to hold both the nut and the element). I drilled the hole smack in the vertical middle of the lower...

Syracuse, ny - round 7 group grain buy

So I added myself as a driver for Rochester NY (although I'm the only one from Rochester who has added so far looks like). I don't have a pickup or anything. Best I have is a 4 door sedan type and a hatch back. I don't have a real good mental image of how much you can cram into either of those...

    Best Economy Brewing Kettle

Aluminum is another option you can probably spend a bit less or get a bit of a larger pot for the same money. Here's an example: http://www.amazon.com/Imperial-MW1208-Aluminum-Quarts-Steamer/dp/B0072NBC00. I have a 15G bayou classic that looks like that one that I'm still using as a boil...

Good enough. I'll stick with the kiln amber probably. thanks :)

So how bad are we talking with the sticks & pebbles? I wouldn't want to mangle my crusher because I missed a rock or something. I assume cranking down on a rock couldn't be good for the steel.

I think the kiln amber is closer to a traditional amber malt, right? I think amber is generally around 25 L but the sheet says 15-23L for kiln and 30-38 for caramel. Generally I've used CaraAmber when a recipe calls for amber because that's what my LHBS has. That's 27L so right in the middle...

Cool. I might order a bag of that also then. I don't see that item number on the spreadsheet though. Is it okay to just go ahead and add it or is there a reason some items are on the sheet and some aren't?

I did have one quick question. Does anyone have an amber malt recommendation? When I was looking through the malts I didn't see one. I'm probably just being blind. I know that amber can go by various names though.

subscribed. I updated the spreadsheet with my intended purchases :). Let me know if I did it wrong at all!

    sous vide

A guy I know has been doing just that (crockpot + water + bag). I didn't ask him what he was doing for temperature control. My crockpot is just on/off but I could probably rig up a controller like for the beer freezer. Here's a guy who did this with a video...

    sous vide

I've been thinking of giving this a try and in my reading it sounded like you could use heavy duty ziplock bags vs. a vaccum sealer. You seal the bag 75% of the way, lower it into the water up to the zip-lock (water pressure forces the air out), finish sealing the bag. It sounded like that...

    Simple Electric Build....From the Pros

Disclaimers (1) I am by no means an electrical expert & (2) I've been building out a 120v 5 gallon system but also working on 240v 50A setup. So I'm just kind of curious to figure stuff out before I order all the parts. This thread probably won't even matter to me since I figure I'll be using...

    Raspberry Pi Brewhouse controller?

I'm not really aware of any (although I think I've read that some existing products are based off Arduino). I think one of the issues might be that the software side of things can't be completely independent from the hardware side of things. That's probably why things like brewtroller and...

    Raspberry Pi Brewhouse controller?

I'm not sure I follow - doesn't RPi run Linux? Linux has a ton of programs :). Until the supply chain is sorted out I'm using PIDs and horsing around with an Arduino... but I think you can control the Arduino from a PC using Ruby (or python or shell scripts or...) So, I figured once I...
