    1187 Ringwood Ale Yeast

The two times I used it with out a starter, it took about two days to get going. It should make some tasty beer!

    Exploding Yeast!!!

I think it should work just fine, as long as the yeast is healthy. I recently did a Czech pilsner with White Labs Czech Budejovice Lager 802 that I got from the bottom of two bottles I brewed last summer. It was hardly any yeast at all, and it took a long time to get going. But it worked very...

how long can you store a pkg of dry yeast?

I found a couple of kits in my laundry room that I had bought on clearance at wally-world and then forgot about. They were at least 5 years old when I pulled them out. They had been exposed to extreme temperature changes, as low as 30* and as high as 100*f. The bags of DME were solid bricks...

    C02 (am I being taken?)

The hazmat charge is total BS. It's not a tax or a government fee of any kind, though most people think it is. It's a surcharge that many gas supplier pass on to cover the expenses of their hazmat compliance costs. If you look at the back of your invoice there should be an explanation. They...

AHS American Amber $0.50 beer series Extract

I bottled a batch of their Session Series American Brown Ale a week ago. I did the mini-mash with dry yeast. So far it's pretty good. Light in body and relatively low alcohol. It's a little too bitter, but it's still green. I think it will age very well. I was looking for a good, refreshing...

    Storing brewing tools

I bought the biggest plastic tool box I could find. It's got compartments on the top of the lid for bottle caps, Grolsch gaskets, and carboy caps. The inside tray houses test equipment, fermentation locks, and other small items. In the bottom I keep a capper, hoses, canes, spoons, oxygen...

Stupid question...about easy to use equipment

I have one of those plastic test jars, but I use the tube the hydrometer came in. I can adjust the temperature of my sample quickly by dunking it in a glass of hot or cold water. Can't do that with the test jar because it's too big. I also have half as much waste with the hydrometer tube.

    AHS...great service!

I placed an order with them last May and they sat on it for more than a week. Then they shipped it out the Friday before Memorial day weekend. The weekend I was hoping to brew. It took 5 days to get here when it should have taken 2. And temperatures were in the 90's. I wasted $2 on ice...

Do the drops affect the head on finished beer?

    Do it yourself labels

I use Avery shipping lables. You can download free software from avery.com and make some pretty good lables. They're not as cheap as using plain paper and milk glue, but it is much faster and easier. Just print and peel.

    Co2 and Nitro tanks refilled

Yeah $15 for a swap. It looks like you got a pretty good deal. It would be better if you could get a 40cf beergas instead of that 22. Do you have a high pressure regulator? A co2 regulator won't work with beer gas. The beer gas will be about 2200 PSI. You may be able to trade a 20#...

    Co2 and Nitro tanks refilled

Greedy bastards! I work in a welding supply store and swap cylinders all day long. Cylinders are cylinders. If someone brought in a 20# co2 and wanted to swap it for an 80 nitrogen, I'd swap it. However, I would charge a little more for the contents of the N2 because the 80cf cylinder is worth...

Fermometer? can it be taken off?

Water will probably ruin it. It did mine. I had the same delima and chose to leave it alone. I should have peeled it off instead.

    Off-taste, will it mellow?

I quit using the the iodophor because of the band-aid taste, and switched to bleach. I still got the band-aid taste with bleach, so I switched back to iodophor. It's just green, give it time.
