    Liquid yeast packages

I had to make a starter to pitch my Weizenbock. One pack is 100 billion cells and I needed about 400. The starter calculator on Brewers friend helped me get there with a two step starter. I successfully avoided a banana beer. That would have been the result of a 1 pack pitch due to yeast stress...

    What are you drinking now?

A tasting last night of my first 5 gallon batch at 3 weeks in the bottle. A weizenbock. Delicious.

    I want to brew outside...

I just run a garden hose from an outside spigot into a big plastic tub near where I boil. When it's time to cool, I leave the water on a bit so it overflows the tub and recirculates the cool water through. I place by boil kettle in it and just stir until it's cool enough to pitch yeast. Takes...

    Help me understand hydrometers

We're concerned with only the change in density from OG to FG. The only reaction that should have occurred (fingers crossed) is yeast converting sugar to CO2 and alcohol. The original wort and the fermented beer should still have all the same salts, dissolved hops, etc. so they shouldn't skew...

    Help with possible infection

The only thing that comes to mind are similar to what the others have said so far. For the bottles: They must be spotless before sanitizing. Be sure the dishwasher step is doing its job and not leaving residue or old beer gunk. For the bottling bucket: If it has a spigot, disassemble and clean...

    Help with possible infection

What did you use for sanitation? How did you wash everything? Did you reuse commercial bottles or buy new empty ones?

What I did for beer today

Bottled my Weizenbock today after de-labeling and fully sanitizing a ton of commercial bottles I've collected. Got a full 50 bottles of it though!

    Brewing as a Couple

So far, the most participation I can get is her opinion on what the next brew should be. Working on her though.

    Craft Beer Price Sticker Shock!

I'll play devil's advocate :) Keep in mind, a brewery is a business. They want to make a profit and return their investment within the first few years of operation. Businesses cost a lot to run and that's reflected in the cost of the products. (Like cooking a filet at home will save around $20...

    12 Beers of Christmas 2017

I love this idea. I'm obviously new to the forum but I may try to brew one or two of these myself for Christmas this year in hopes to participate in years to come. I'm still getting my equipment broken in and will soon convert to all grain. I can't wait to see how these turn out.

    Age and daily beer consumption.....

31 years old here. I typically have maybe a 6 pack spread out throughout the week. I'm building up my reserves since I just started brewing so that may change a bit going forward.
