    Help me improve my Dunkelweizen

I did a 2 liter starter for my Weizenbock and it turned out flavorful with clove and banana balanced well. It was closer in volume to the left jar. I was using 3068 though

Hefeweizen with lots of banana flavor

My last brew (Weizenbock) called for 300 million cells. I fermented at 62-64F using wyeast 3068. I'd say the banana and clove flavors were balanced if not somewhat more banana forward at timed. My OG was 1.080 though so you may need to scale that a bit. Hope that's a good reference to base...

Brew day from hell, what are my chances of drinkable beer?

Chances are, the beer will be pretty good. Solely for the fact that if you ever wanted to reproduce it, you literally couldn't. :D My first all grain day (I've only done 1 so far) felt equally hectic. I was not getting the strike water right and having to sparge for what felt like hours. The...

Blonde Ale Squeeze My Lemon Summer Blonde

Tasting this today after a week in the bottle. I can't help myself, this bottle was only half full anyway as it was last on bottling day. Since the yeast isn't fully done working and just 24 hours in the fridge, there's a slight yeasty flavor but the beer is surprisingly pleasant. Lemon is...

    What are you drinking now?

Taste testing lemon Summer blonde after 1 week in bottle. Pretty pleasant if I do say so right now! (Except for the slight yeasty aftertaste, they're not done working lol)

5 Gal beer overcarbed from one cup of honey?

Everybody makes mistakes. I'm still new to this and make mistakes every batch. RDWHAHB... before it explodes :mug:

Just a thought on brewing location.

I brew outside as my stove can only handle a couple gallons at best. The wife also doesn't enjoy the smell of boiling wort so I choose to enjoy a nice sunny day in the driveway. Set up is a bit of a pain since I store everything in the basement. I'm still getting my process figured out to...

What I did for beer today

Anyone going to the BYO boot camp in Indianapolis?

I wish! I'm in Cincy but don't have the $$$ for this in the budget :( I'll keep an ear out for more in the future.

    Dogs

Got these floofy doofs last year at the local shelter. Adopting two puppies at once... don't do that. I wouldn't trade them for anything now tough.

    Poured out a keg

That yeast is very finicky with pitch rates and fermentation temperature with respect to the flavors it will produce in the final beer. I actually used that my last batch and tried to get more of a clove flavor but it ended up being a bit banana forward and unbalanced. I still enjoy it but it...

    Poured out a keg

I just brewed a lemon blonde using lemon zest last weekend so it's still fermenting. The advice that I got was to use organic lemons, wash them well, and use only the yellow of the skin (no white at all) for the zest. I'm not sure if that helps but it's all I got. Good luck with the next brew!

    Diy mash tun question

I just built a rectangular chest cooler into a mash tun. I may be in it total for $50 so even if I need to change something it's not a big deal. Edit: my thoughts were that it's good to have more room for big beers down the road even if the efficiency may be slightly lower than a round cooler...

    Starsan In Airlock

Yes, the risk is still there but a half oz of the solution in the airlock contains very little starsan by comparison. If it makes it into the beer, it gets further diluted still. It's negligible when you take into account that starsan is no rinse. The quantity on 50+ bottles for a 5 gallon batch...

    Starsan In Airlock

Starsan concentrate on an airlock isn't a great idea. You are correct that the starsan/water sanitizing solution should be in there. As for off flavors, the solution in an airlock can get sucked back into the fermenter during temperature changes or moving the fermentor. The only airlock that...

Blonde Ale Squeeze My Lemon Summer Blonde

I brewed this yesterday. The only change to the recipe based on others responses was 1.25 oz. of zested organic lemon (using a microplane). I'll try to update with how it turns out but it's bubbling away in the basement now.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2017?

5 gallons of lemon summer blonde = 5630 gallons
  19. BigCrazyAl

    So who's brewing this weekend?

5.5 gallons of a lemon summer blonde in the fermenter last night. Excited to see where it ends up.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

It has to be the smoked sour I had at Wild Haven in GA a few years ago for my birthday. It was like a mouthful of smoked salmon flavored beer. The remainder of the glass made it into their landscaping and I didn't stray from the standard ipa, stout, etc. for the rest of the evening.
