Priming a big beer after lagering

I’m hoping someone can provide some advice with the priming and bottling of a Belgian quad I brewed about 7 weeks ago. The beer is the westvleteren 12 clone by csi. Brew day went well and after 10 days in primary the beer had attenuated down to the expected 1.012 with a temperature ramp up to...

    2 Vessel System Efficiency Issue

I may be way off base here so please correct me if I'm wrong but I think with a two vessel system that the OP describes the issue lies more in the lauter efficiency. Since your not sparging whatever grain absorption you have is a loss of concentrated sugary wort, the same concentration as what...

As someone who just got camlocks and love ‘em I’d vote option 1

    American IPA LushJuice IPA

Cool, I’ll give it a go

    American IPA LushJuice IPA

This recipe sound delicious, thanks for posting! Play Dead is definitely a local favourite of mine so I’d like to brew this up. Beer lover, do you think I could sub the Columbus bittering charge with a neutral hop like magnum or would I miss out on some flavour imparted by the Columbus? Just...

    Sanitizing 3D printed parts

Haha, I kinda stalled out on this one. I'd still like to try out this project so I'll report back if I make it past the modelling stage. (Learning solid works is hard)

are chugger pumps suppose to suck in water?

I just got a chugger and haven't even plugged it in so I'm probably the worst to answer this but anyway... no, it is not self priming (cannot pump air). You will need to gravity feed water into the line first by elevating the bucket and siphoning into the pump. Once the air has cleared it'll...

    Sanitizing 3D printed parts

Great info, thanks all for offering your insights. I think I'll give it a shot with pla first as I have a friend who uses it exclusively on her machine. If I find that sanitizing it with starsan causes it to break down than I'll look into getting my hands on some pets filament. The part that I'm...

    Sanitizing 3D printed parts

Hmmm, thanks for the replies. I'll look into the food safe angle, my understanding was that the pla was food safe while the abs is not. I like the acetone idea I'll look more into that too

Most connections on my co2 kegging set up leak

No thread locker. Use teflon tape on any npt connections (pipe thread) but not on flare fittings. Speaking of flare fittings, make sure you have the nylon washer in there or it will leak. And yes a little snug up with a wrench but no need to go crazy.

    Sanitizing 3D printed parts

I'm guessing that with all the DIYers on this board that there are people printing parts to use in their home breweries. I have access to a machine that prints using pla but I'm completly new to the concept. One thing that I've noticed is that while the parts come off with great accuracy and...

    Water Tool in BeerSmith

Morrey, I look forward to hearing your results! I've seen several threads comparing bs to bruinwater ph estimates on paper but I don't think I've seen anyone post their actual findings after using beersmith to calculate acid addition.

    Water Tool in BeerSmith

I too, have bounced back and forth between beersmith and bruinwater. They never seem to agree fully on the amount of acid needed so I tend to error towards whichever calls for less. I dunno, I don't have a ph meter but I've been happy with the results.

    Water Tool in BeerSmith

Your welcome, I learned that little trick from a video I probably found here on HBT. I'd post a link but I can't remember where it was; I certainly did not figure that out on my own.

    Water Tool in BeerSmith

When you are done building your water profile in the water tool you can click a button to save those salt additions to that water profile. Then back in the recipe design tab if you add water and choose that profile BeerSmith will ask if you would like to add the salt additions as well. If you...

Help me get rid of skid marks...

No, not what you think 😉 I bought 4 corny kegs from my lhbs to start kegging my home brew. (I am loving the ease and convenience of having a kegerater btw). Anyway on 2 of the 4 kegs the rubber on the bottom and handles leaves thick black residue on anything they touch when wet. I...

    Trimming the lower sidearms?

Hmm, I don't know the answer but I'm curious about that too. I did trim most of the side growth on mine at the bottom. I guess I just assumed it was similar to tomato plants; hasn't had a negative impact yet.

    Vancouver (BC) breweries

I live in a suburb of vancouver so I won't be super helpful as we don't go downtown very often. I would however recommend that if you Have the means to get around that you head to Brewer's row in Port Moody (half hour out of town) where you'll find 4 excellent craft breweries within walking...

    Yes, siphoning literally sucks

Lately I've just been taking the casing of a ballpoint pen with the insides removed, sticking the tapered end into my racking hose and sucking on the pen to start the siphon and then pulling the pen away. Does this seem like a sanitary practice? No issues yet it seems.
