In need of nitrogen tank & regulator

I got my regulator and faucet from micromatic.com My local shop does beer gas (nitro) tank exchanges if you buy initially from them, rather than fills. So I got my tank from them. I’ve looked at morebeer and kegerator.com for a tank before- comes empty so you may still need to exchange it. I...

Beer Gas Setup - Who has made the leap?

Nice share. Took a screenshot of that for future reference. Thanks!

Beer Gas Setup - Who has made the leap?

Literally just purchased/setup mine the last couple of weeks. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of straightforward info about regulator pressure vs. beer temp (like those nice CO2 charts that exist) so I found dialing in the system and the initial setup to be more thought and reading than I was...

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

I’m with you on that one. Nice looking system (jealous). My brother brought up the spike systems many years ago and it was the first time I’d heard of all electric. Ashamed to say I turned my nose up at it and thought “that isn’t how home brewers do it; you need to use a turkey fryer burner and...

Peanut butter powder in secondary - stir in our leave alone?

Anyone already decide to formulate a recipe around the name “Yeti’s Taint” yet? If not- DIBS. I’m thinking a white stout.

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

Agreed. Depending on your process for chilling / transferring, pitching after transferring has the added benefit of a last minute temperature “sanity check” to ensure you’re not hurting the living little creatures. If you’re sure of your wort temperature entering the fermenter, I can’t see a big...

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

Figured I’d throw this guy on here and show off my woodie (garage door is only closed to get the picture, I brew with it open and in the driveway)

    How long do you ferment?

+1 - Unless something else drives me not to, around 4 weeks I take the FG and keg all at once.

    Nitro aged stout

Just remember that nitrogen comes as a compressed gas and is higher pressure to get a reasonable volume in the similar sized cylinder. I would guess the reason for different valve design is so you don’t mistakenly put a lower pressure regulator on the high pressure tank. Speaking about my setup...

    Nitro aged stout

Read toward the end of this article- “An Authentic Alternative” part. The carbonation in a nitro beer is quite more CO2 then people realize, with the nitrogen to “push” the beer while allowing the amount of CO2 dissolved to stay low. Big things from the article- need a restrictive plate in the...

    first all grain brew

+1 on figuring out/tuning your grains and volumes to get a post boil gravity and volume where you want. Take into consideration your boil losses, false bottom loss, boil kettle sediment and volumes of tubing (maybe small) etc. I ran a “fake” brew the day before to figure out some of my losses...

What came in the mail for you today?

A Blichmann bottle filler. Needed something to go from keg to bottles to share with the local home brew shop. A friend said he loves it so figured I’d take a chance.

Broken Glass Carboy Horror Stories Compendium

I usually use the covers while transporting, not completely while cleaning. They zip all the way down the side, so I usually leave the carboys sitting on the cover with it unzipped so I can see the whole thing while cleaning, then zip it up to use the cover’s handles for dumping. I leave them...

Broken Glass Carboy Horror Stories Compendium

Anyone use the covers on Carboy.net ? I have three for some 6 gallon carboys and have never had any issues. They (at least when I bought mine) seem pretty sturdy, have carried multiple full carboys and have never heard so much of a frightening seam stretching noise from em. Well worth the...

Do you need a 1 off Stainless part built for your system? Let's discuss it.

No kill like overkill indeed! Good thoughts on the tap off the whirlpool supply. Typically I grab a hydrometer sample between mash and boil, so you’re right about no need to chill quickly, I usually just let it chill on it’s own and grab the hydrometer reading later. The only time I wished I...

What came in the mail for you today?

I got the lesser exciting stuff in the mail yesterday- Some BLC and a new keg system cleaner hand pump. Some more Irish moss since I ran out last week. Most exciting- some vanilla beans. Gonna throw one in with my cocao nibs for a chocolate stout currently in the primary.

Do you need a 1 off Stainless part built for your system? Let's discuss it.

A small stainless coil that could be threaded (or have a QD or TC connection) with some sort of “surround” so you could draw off samples from a boil kettle or mash tun and have them cooled for hydrometer readings, etc immediately after drawing. Think- a small pot, with a small stainless coil...

New Jersey Southern NJ HB Club?

Also live in this area, not as experienced as most on here but have been brewing for a few years. Have you checked out Keg and Barrel? They usually have some info on local brewing groups.
