Sanitizing corney kegs with boiling water

No, I don't tear my kegs down every time I clean them. I go from having a clean beer in them to when they're empty, they are still sealed and pressurized with CO2 - thus inhibiting any oxygen and bacteria growth. I then open them on cleaning day and run them on my keg cleaner with PBW that...

Sanitizing corney kegs with boiling water

Beer was in primary fermenter for about 3 weeks. I kegged it and had it sitting at ambient temp for about 2 weeks prior to doing a dry hop. When I went to dry hop it, all 3 kegs had a pellicle type growth floating on the top of the beer in the kegs. Since all 3 kegs were exactly the same, I...

Sanitizing corney kegs with boiling water

I normally just use PBW in my keg cleaner and then rinse and hit them with StarSan. However I recently had my first infection in 3 kegs (same 15G batch), which told me that the infection started in the fermenter. With that infection, I decided to use boiling water in all 3 of those kegs. It...

Upright Freezer or DIY Glycol for Texas Heat??

Ditto iijackii comments regarding if it is just one...go with the freezer. If it is more than one fermenter, then glycol becomes more reasonable. A couple of additional reasons I suggested the freezer over the glycol include the fact that you have to chill the glycol in a cooler and that ends...

Upright Freezer or DIY Glycol for Texas Heat??

With that kind of heat, I think a freezer might be better. I use jacketed conicals in my garage with glycol and while my setup works well, I only see temps in the 80's. Even with that, I get a lot of sweat on the plumbing and components. I'm sure you can make it work, but a freezer seems like...

[Initial Release] RaspberryPints - Digital Taplist Solution

Nice job KCBrewer! Ditto on request for code. I like my dual column layout, but I like yours too! I'd like to try it out. :)

    Chugger Pump Rear Housing Disc

I've ordered them from Adventures in Homebrewing. They're 99 cents each. http://www.homebrewing.org/Thrust-Washer-Front-teflon-March-Pump-_p_2498.html Order a few spares and keep them on hand. Depending on how much you're using your pump, you'll want to replace them about every 12 months.

California Automated 3 way Stainless Valves (Qty 3)

Correct, they will always be open to one of the two outputs. I find this style good for mounting on the output side of a pump. If the pump is off, nothing flowing anyways.

California Automated 3 way Stainless Valves (Qty 3)

Someone has to be working on adding some automation to their brewing!!

    What makes a home brewer

I do 15 gallon all grain batches and I sometimes get snarky remarks from people that I'm not really brewing since I've incorporated so much automation.

BrunDog 50A eRig - no HLT for me!

Good vid! I don't have 45 minutes to watch it right now, but I did skim through it. What would be nice is if you created a little topic index with the time locations noted. It would make a good reference for people to check out when they had a question about a specific part of your build...

New BCS-462 / RPi Control Panel Build

I use an HP 21" touchscreen monitor that I picked up on buy.com years ago for cheap. You can use any point of sale or other touchscreen monitor as long as you can hook up the video and USB for the touchscreen. I used a HDMI to DVI cable to connect video and then just plugged in the USB for...

    Intertap beer faucets

I've seen this problem with large tap handles since the Perlicks open and close so easily, the weight of the tap handles sometimes enables this issue. If you crank down the tightness of the little collar on the handle shaft, it does at some additional resistance to the opening/closing.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

While I haven't used mine in a while, I really like the Stir Crazy / Turbo Oven DIY builds. I always did 1 pound batches in it. Simple and consistent.

    Upright Keezer

LOL, that's a good problem to have! I know what you mean though as I sometimes will get a beer that we're not drinking much and several months later I end up tossing the last gallon or so to get something new on. A party or two does wonders for thinning the kegs though. :tank:
