    Dream LHBS

My LHBS sells 2-row for $7.50/5lbs. I can get it online, even with shipping, for significantly less. Specialty grains, hops and yeast are also significantly cheaper online. As an example, dry yeast at my LHBS is $5.00 but I can order it for roughly $3.00. Since I'm ordering ingredients...

    How many brews per tank?

I have been averaging 6 five-gallon brews per tank. I use a Camp Chef 60,000 btu burner and do all-grain BIAB with 60 minute boils. I recently decided to switch to 10 gallon batches and have so far got 1 five-gallon and 2 ten-gallon batches out of my tank.

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

On another note, welding galvanized causes a phenomenon known as metal fume fever. It is a short-term issue that produces flu-like effects. I assume that burning the coating off with a burner might (if you are breathing the fumes) cause a similar effect. Might want to fire the burners for a...

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

This thread has been very inspiring! I never thought of using unistrut for a stand. Wheels are available for unistrut - the .pdf linked below describes them as useful for making carts out of unistrut. There also seem to be angle brackets available that might be used to support tiers on a...

My mother and grandmother are both survivors, and your wife will be too. My good thoughts are with you both.

    Where to buy glassware

If you want common shapes and sizes in case-sized quantities (usually 24, sometimes 12) I would look for a restaurant supply store that sold to the public. Many, but not all, do. Cheap and good quality.

What would you do for a Chugger Pump?

I would use it to create a zero calorie barley wine. I would incorporate it into my 110v 3bbl four-tier electric brewery. I would create wort so magical that fermentors never need be sanitized and starters never need be made. I would whirlpool so hard that the hops could be removed with...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I'm hardly the Corona mill settings master, but I got 75% efficiency on a BIAB Octoberfesty ale I brewed yesterday by doing the following: 1) tighten mill until you hear a grinding sound when it's running, 2) back off this setting just a bit - at this point you hear more of a light "clacking"...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I just brewed up a batch of Edwort's Octoberfest. I've never seen bees so attracted to wort before! The little buggers were everywhere. Despite the wildlife it has been a lovely fall afternoon.

Grain Profiles and Hop Varietals reference guide

Great job. I can see using this both as a reference and a source of inspiration. If there was more substitution info this could practically be a one-stop-shop for me. Thanks for taking the time to compile.

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

Thanks Revvy. Not just for the compliments on the corona stand, but for all the help you have unknowingly given this long time lurker over the years!

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I just built this bucket-topper for my corona mill. It doesn't keep 100% of the grain in the bucket but does a reasonable job. Fun to build!

    Beer without hops?

I believe it only takes a simple blood test to determine if he is suffering from celiac disease (causes problems with gluten). Might be worth a shot.

    What's your next upgrade?

Oxygen or stir plate/other starter stuff. I have mostly stuck to medium gravity beers and dry yeast but am looking to branch out. For bigger beers and liquid yeasts, these seem to be the standard upgrades. I'll probably do the oxygen first since this should add less complexity to my brewing...

    Hops are not better!

Could it be because more malt/less hops generally means a sweeter seeming product? Those who really enjoy sweet (or dislike bitter) find other beverages more to their liking, and thus there is sort of an upper limit to how sweet a commercially available beer can become before its target...

    Brewer's Hardware Kettles

Congrats! I expect you will like them. Since you mentioned adding ferules, I just remembered the one thing I would change about my kettle. I had the custom ferule placed above the ball valve. I just had Brewer's Hardware put it where they thought it should be. I gave them no particular...
