Nope, didn't work out for small batches.

So I added a fernco 4" cap to the top. Cut a 1" hole and made 2 slits so I could get it over the triclamp flange. Will glue it back together. Wrapped the heaters in header tape, the ring at the top is extra header tape I'm using as a centering ring and plug. Installed some rock wool...

Yep, great point. Just another option to fit your needs. Like you said it's about the right solution to fit your needs. Each has their plus and minuses.

The spool is non ferrous so no on that, I thought of it though. Would need a sleeve clamped over the outside.

Yea I never said this was efficient. If you want efficiency, go buy a case of beer. For me I wanted a method that: Works Doesn't scorch wort More efficient than Herms Can step mash faster than Herms Don't have to clean between brews Easily expandable I think IRIMS is a good compromise between...

    PLC Crash help

I was using advanced HMI to start off. It can be a pain since it is Microsoft based. Need to decide on a driver to communicate with it. If your PLC has MODBUS, that's how I would do it. If you have some room in your budget, look at Automation Direct Cmore, the new EA9 line is very reasonable...

    PLC Crash help

Try removing all battery power to the EPROMs. Let it sit a while to see if it resets. I'm not too familiar with Delta PLC's. Is the register retentive? You would think system registers wouldn't be accessible to the ladder.

First: please for the love of God, quit calling a temperature controller a PID! PID is an algorithm, that's it. You don't have to use the PID function on most temperature controllers. My PLC has the ability to do 2000 PID loops. I tuned my closed PID loop, so it will use 0-100% power...

Good info. That's why I use a pvc pipe split in half and clamped around them. The wires are coated with liquid tape. Trust me, I made this as safe as possible.

I would make sure the pipe has liquid in it.

I'm getting .5 to 1 deg per min with a 1.5:1 and about 20lbs of grain in a .5bbl keg. At 1gpm. That's to the top of the bed, it takes about 5-10 min for the bed to equalize. I have several RTD's glued to the wall of the MLT. Some times it's too much info as I never thought my mash was that...
